ah, i have some cheap clothing i would like to replace with better ones (like my rain jacket and my ski jacket and my ski trousers) - but while they aren't really good, and are a bit broken, they won't break enough that i am willing to throw them away ... i also wore some shoes for ages, even though the profile on the soles wore off, because i wanted to wait until they actually break - in the end, my new insoles didn't fit in them though, so then i thought i can actually throw them away ...

Yes, groo, tubes in NA! There was also Radio Shack, an electronics chain of stores, where you could bring your wonky tubes for testing and buy new ones as needed. psw ohmygod! radio shack! they are still out there radioshack.com/

We are getting our microwave oven replaced. It was considerably cheaper to get a new one, have it installed and connected to all the fans etc than getting the old one repaired. I don’t think it’s that old (it was in the house when we moved) but even getting someone to look at it was going to be a problem. I’ve never heard of a microwave that needed to be installed and connected to things. We just buy ours and plug them into a power point. They wouldn’t normally be left in a house for the purchaser. Only ordinary stoves, cooktops and ovens.

You can buy a range hood that includes a microwave with all the light/fan/etc; I'm assuming that's what's happening here.
