OK, it's May already, what have I forgotten to update for April?
Olga Tokarczuk, Flights (translated from the Polish by Jennifer Croft) Really good, sort of fragmented book about travel and the body that jumps between continents and countries. Not one for fans of a tight plot - in fact I hesitate to call it a novel at all. Enjoyed though.
Michelle de Kretser, Questions of Travel Another rather loosely structured book (although not as loosely as Flights!). The Australians will have heard of de Kretser but it was my first book by her. It follows two main characters, an Australian called Laura and a Sri Lankan called Ravi, whose paths eventually cross (but really eventually, this is not the main focus of the book). There are some really critical reviews of this book on Goodreads; again, I think they're from people who wanted something plot-focused rather than over 500 pages of rather meandering, but beautiful, prose. De Kretser is a really good observer of how people speak, dress, office life, the difficulties of the immigrant, I kept smiling in recognition.

lillie - I recall on reading de Kresters book there were a few bits that seemed to have come straight from the Thorn Tree - and de Krester had worked for LP!
