That's pretty shocking. If I was sign guy, I'd be in hiding right now.

I thought it looked like a woman in the original video, but didn't give it much thought.

Didn't the sign say 'Allez'?
That's horrendous. Poor cyclists. Stupid woman.

I feel a little bad for her because she did it out of obliviousness, not malign intent, and now the entire planet thinks she's an idiot. But doing that is pretty obtuse.

the mic arm on my headset is slightly bendy, and has bent, which is why I've suddenly been smacking it with my coffee cup.

apparently the language on the sign is Alsatian. Which is exactly what it looks like, a mixture between French and German. And the woman ran away after the incident, but was identified and found by locals, and is now up for a potential year long jail sentence and thousands of euros in fines.

There were a lot scrapes and bruises. Remember that this was a bunch of athletic guys who are used to falling and rolling. Yes, it could have been a lot worse. Gross negligence at a minimum, reckless endangerment or whatever the French Code Civile equivalent may be.

I don't know why I still feel a little sorry for her - I guess making a complete idiot of yourself in front of millions of people will do that.

Yeah, I don't think she should go to jail, but definitely some voluntary service marshalling at public events, or litter picking...

Maybe a month or two of jail followed by a working probation of some sort of public service. I have no idea whether there is any sort of alternative sentencing in France.

I have no idea whether there is any sort of alternative sentencing in France. would that be possible in france? in germany, prison sentences of under six months are very rare, and according to what i just googled only done if it is thought that the person will only "learn" from a short time in prison. normally, for anything that would warrant a sentence of under six months, the punishment will be a fine. and if it is thought the person will not do the same thing again and it was their first offense, then sentences up to a year are normally turned into a parole sentence, i think. (no expert on all this, just what i understand from a quick googling, and wondering if it is very different in france ...)

Yes, we joke that eventually we'll have beachfront property here too.
(What I was talking about there was continental drift, not sea level rise, actually, but I obviously didn't write it carefully enough)
