Who has been? What did you think? I have a friend in Medillin (sp?). I watch Anthony Bordain a lot and last night's show was from there....he makes it all look too cool. And then it makes me want to go.

One night in Bogota only - and I stayed in my hostel (stopover). I'd love to go back.

I have a stroke of jealousy going on right now! I'd love to go there!
Will your sister be nervous about the destination?

My sister thinks Colombia is just a kidnapping for worse waiting to happen. She has probably been to the Bahamas as far as being out of the country.

colombia should be pretty safe these days. they have a whole tourism advertising line about how much safer it is than in the past. "colombia...the only danger is never wanting to leave" or something like that.

I went to Colombia and didn't get kidnapped!
There are still parts of the country that are not advised to travel to due to residual FARC activity, but you should be fine.
Highly recommend a visit to Tayrona if you do go - absolutely beautiful place (although I hear it can get quite busy in their high season which is Dec-Jan and around the Easter holidays).

we're looking to go in july. annoyingly, the flights from are incredibly expensive which will leave us with loads of time on busses. glad to hear lots of people are enjoying it!

OK I need to reactivate this thread. Too bad I spelled the country name wrong. And I think I can get there on airline points.

you have my feedback already. it was beautiful. i'm reading 'short walks from bogota' now, and it's been interesting to compare the author's view on the city from mine. obviously different--i was a tourist with just a few days, he'd lived there back when FARC was a daily threat and was now visiting old friends and smaller towns to see how things had changed.
