ha, bugger that for a joke. Though I would like to go, tell them I'm committed to following that diet but struggling with it due to my nut allergic son. ;-)

I tried to go vegan for a week, just to see what it was like.
It was OK-ish if I was eating at home, but impossible once I left the house. I also missed dairy (more than meat).
So now I've switched to trying "Weekday Vegetarian" (http://www.ted.com/talks/graham_hill_weekday_vegetarian?language=en) which works well as it gives me a chance to learn new vegetarian recipes and experiment through the week in an easy way.
Having said that I have leftovers from tonight that contain meat that I will eat tomorrow, so it's not a perfect plan.

I agree that it is not so easy to plan. I threw out some noodles this week because my plans for a vegan stir fry didn't fit in with the rest of the family. I think it's almost impossible to eat vegan when out with friends apart from possibly Indian. It would be much easier if I didn't live with two men who think they need to eat meat at every meal. I made a veggie curry with tofu this weekend and put two portions in the freezer. I'll probably have them when the boys eat something boring like sausage and chips.

There's a time and place for sausage and chips......although admittedly I do go a nicer brand of sausage these days (and there's nice veggie sausages around too.....). During the veggie phase younger brother didn't realised he'd been eating Quorn for a couple of weeks in lasagne, bologense, pies etc. Admittedly I don't think he cared as long as he was getting dinner dished up for him.

Sigh.
I love a lazy wander around Borough Market but I think I'll avoid it for a little while......had a date go badly (wasn't even actively bad......just a bit, well, shit) there a while back.
The new part of London has a Saturday farmers market though so may have to pick up something from there (when I'm actually around on a Saturday.....). Come to think of it, a mate has a proper butchers shop around the a couple of minutes away which also does good sausages.
I've just had lunch and now I'm hungry again.....

I'm just way too fussy a eater when it comes to veggies and I don't eat any salad, so I would pretty much starve on a vegan diet. Granted, there are quite a few veggies I like and I have some every day, but they are a side to meat or carbs for me...If you count cold cuts I am sure I have meat every single day.

my brother's gf is vegan. she first started being vegetarian, then after a while still ate dairy but not eggs, and now is fully vegan for a couple of years already. currently she is also eating gluten free as she has some skin problems and thinks it might have to do with eating gluten ...
when i was in high school there were several vegans too. one was a guy i had a crush on. there was an article on one of the boards about how dairy isn't even all that good or something like that. i read it and he was standing next to me, and i made some remark how i thought it was a bit silly (i had never heard of vegans at that time) - turned out he was the one that put it there ...

i've had minimal dairy in my diet for the past 6 months. my meat intake has skyrocketed. my periods have changed--don't get my warning signs, pms is less (it wasn't much to begin with), periods are shorter.
i have no idea if it's the dairy or running at 40. i hope it's 40, because when i get home i want to drink milk and eat awesome cheese.

That's interesting sprite.
I bought a recipe book as a gift at the weekend and the bookstore had such huge displays of vegan cook books, and also a whole section devoted to vegan baking - and it was a mainstream chain bookstore, not a niche one.

Interesting sprite. Part of the reason I wanted to try reducing my intake of dairy is that I felt much healthier after five weeks in India with no dairy whatsoever.

Oh and I do like sausages. But I would rather eat a veggie stir fry or a curry.

Our main meals are vegan probably around 50% of the time--not intentionally, mind you, just the way it falls, I do think there is some difference between those days and days when we include dairy/eggs but not drastic enough to really have thought about it much before this thread.
I don't see the point of forcing yourself to forgo food items unless there's a benefit to it (health, feeling better etc), but I definitely agree that certain foods will have an impact--I feel sluggish and awful if I have too much bread/white flour items, when I ate meat I used to feel really stuffed/heavy after eating if there were both carbs and meat in the same meal.

I only feel bloated and sluggish if I either
- overeat - as in, force myself to finish a portion in a restaurant, or just finish because it tastes so good - and then feel slightly sick and close to a food coma, which sucks if it was a lunch meal an I have to go back to work
- or when I have a burger with fries. It's funny, but the combination of the bun and the fries just makes me feel nauseous and bloated - burger with fries only or with bun only is fine though.

yeah, i'll track how i feel when we're back in the land of yummy milk and my favourite cheese shop. i'm hoping it's just age and hormonal changes.
cutting my lunches in half was the best thing i ever did for my productivity.
