hi ladies, long time to see!
I'm going to Japan for a long weekend not this weekend but next. I have to attend an event at Twin Ring Motegi on Saturday afternoon and Sunday. I will be catching a train from Tokyo to Utsunomia Saturday afternoon, comming back to Tokyo Monday morning.
So, I'm looking for any recommendations of somewhere to stay in Tokyo on Friday night (and your recommendations of "must" sees in half a day there)
And I'm looking for any recommendation any of you might have for somewhere to stay near Twin Ring Motegi as the circuit hotel is fully booked. I will be hiring a car from Utsounomiya to get around.
Yes I know its a long shot, but didnt we have some jammers who are Japan experts?

according to my husband the Tsukiji fish market is a must do, then a bowl of pork ramen from the street vendor.
Happy to ask my friends who visit there often, family own the Panasonic building in Shibuya.

posting so I remember to come back to it. no hotel recommendations unfortunately, but will pop back in with some suggestions for sights. Tsukiji market has moved and/or is not accessible for tourists anymore, I think (or is closing). there's plenty of other stuff though!

Hi Janey so far the only suggestion is Nikko. I think it is an old town out of Tokyo. Will get onto cousin later, forgot he lived there for 20 years.

Nikko is one of the places my son is staying, he said it's north of Tokyo. (He flew to Japan on Monday)

Nikko is great but very far away. It's a day trip from Tokyo.
For half a day, I'd do Meiji shrine, walk along omotesando in harajuku (depends on what you like, but apart from people watching there's also some pretty cool architecture like the Prada store). There's a small but very nice Japanese woodblock prints museum just off omotesando. Via the quirky back streets walk to shibuya. Manic Tokyo at its best.
All this is walkable. You could also head to asakusa for the big temple (sorry, can't think of the name) and walk aroundthat area. Very ddifferent. This is also close to Kappabashidoori, if I have my orientation right, which is heaven if you love beautiful bowls and plates (like I do) and other random kitchen ware.
Enjoy!!! Jealous!!!!!

have been on slow slow internet so haven't been able to check anything. I thought Nikko may have been a distance away, asked daughter yesterday and she suggested just walking around and soaking in the sights -not much help. Mei may have more of an idea exactly what I am talking about now - Hugh department store in Tokyo, apparently (if they still do it) the morning opening ritual/ceremony is worth watching. Visited a museum, which was near a park - the expanse of tents for the homeless was an major eye opener. this page I thought was interesting aroundtokyo.net/blog/parks-and-gardens-in-tokyo/ we did one year go to a park which had an old English mansion in it, along with an old Japanese home - don't think it was the Kyu-Furukawa gardens but may have been. It was rather interesting and enjoyable, if you do have the time I do suggest going to a large park/gardens as it is relaxing and you do forget that you are in the middle of a very busy modern city. The other places I liked are not in Tokyo - Nara and Kyoto both are great places

late but if the weather is nice, a sumida river boat ride visiting a smaller temple definitely go to the parks the temple in asakusa is lovely, but really crowded
