I have a new job and I get the impression that the dress code is slightly more formal than my current employer.. so I need some new stuff. No suits or anything... more along the line of nice slacks, skirts, dresses, tops that aren´t t-shirts... We used to have Mexx in Norway but not anymore... if they still exist I would like to go there as it´s where I used to get my "nice" work clothes. I´m open to all suggestions. I want stuff that is high quality without being over-the-top expensive... Again... what cities? (And who can I visit? )

I used to really like Mexx as well. They went bust some time ago and most stores closed - the one in Cologne had already gone before that. As I understand it a Turkish group has bought the firm. There is one in Bonn but it always seems to have a small range of heavily discounted stuff, not much of a choice.
I guess the same sort of price range on every German high street is Esprit, some find it a bit overpriced.
For Germany you have to bear in mind that the shops don't open on Sundays, except on rare occasions.

only one way to find out ;-)
(but sorry, no more help on this thread. I think of Paris, Milan and London as ultimate European shopping cities - but also cities that are out of my budget for just a weekend shopping)
