Scoot are now advertising low fares from Singapore, and Air Asia from Kuala Lumpur to some European cities. You can get cheap flights on the same airlines to these cities from Australia. I have never flown on either airline, but they might be worth considering.

I've flown Air Asia shorter distances. They are now on my no go list for long-haul flights.

At the moment there is special Etihad promo of 30 % discount on both Economy and Business flights if you leave prior to Nov 23rd. promo STFBUS or STFECO Thanks to lazybones1987 on ozbargain. Also can be reduced if you get jetstar or Royal Brunei to BKK and only AU$2300 to go business to AMS from there. www.ozbargain.com.au/node/266167#comment-4008251 for full details and fare info. Another resource is Australian frequent flyer and go to cheap domestic and cheap international flight section. Skyscanner.com.au is also good resource. Aunt Betty is offering cheap fares too at moment. Is a new offshoot of flight Centre. Royal Brunei sometimes has economy specials for under AU$1000 return MEL to LHR. Good for full service airline but serves no alcohol although you can take your own small bottle with you if bought on airside. Two stops one in Brunei and one in Dubai. Breaks up journey and you get to stretch legs.

anyone thinking of doing a 22+ Trafalgar tour will get their airfare paid for by the company. Smaller trips all have 'cheap' airfare components with them.

Have flown Air Asia long haul several times, no complaints. Cabin crew good, meals fine, seats wider than Jetstar. Would fly with them again.

Last year I flew AirAsia from Bangkok to Penang - it was a good flight - pleasant staff, comfortable enough seat, clean modern plane. I also flew Scoot from Singapore to Melbourne - in Scoot-Biz because it was overnight and cheap. Roomy seat (not like full cost airlines as not lay flat) nice service clean and modern plane - might have been a Dreamliner.
