Mr Snow just got told he has to go there first week in October.
BUT: It's a work trip for him Flights are out from Southend and back to Gatwick (our closest airport is Norwich).
Is it worth spending the extra £300 (just for flights) so we (me and off-spring aged 18 months and rising 4) can go too?
What is there to do for 3 days or so? I don't speak much/any Spanish, if that makes a difference.
If we don't go, I travel back from Southend by myself on the Monday evening (we're down in Brighton for the weekend anyway - pain that out flight isn't from Gatwick!) and he gets back Friday, probably latish.

why not? is it at all possible to get norwich flights similar to his gatwick flight? do your kids travel well?
parc gruell needs payment, but might be fun. there's the beach, tapas, a cathedral, get some custom-made espadrilles, the Gaudi house. you wouldn't want to take little ones up the towers of Sagrada Familia, but it is still pretty amazing--even if you just walk around the outside.

He's working, is he going to have much spare time to spend with you and the kids, or will you just complicate his working week? Work trips in my experience usually involve some after-work socialising or networking which may not include you and the family. I'd rather do a trip when you are both free to enjoy it, and are able to wrangle the kids together.

Why not? Expense, annoying logistics, not sure how much there is to do in Barcelona.
Anyway, turns out it's next week(!!!) not next month, so we won't be going. Glad he worked that out this morning, rather than, say, over the weekend.
And there's a race he's organising here next Sunday, so that's going to be great, being away until late Friday.
Maybe more chance of taking some of the (copious) leave he's owed sooner rather than later mind. Although nice long Christmas hols could also work. Ho hum.

I spent 5 days in Barcelona the first time 20 years ago and 7 years on a combined work trip had 2 days to myself without getting bored. There's so much to see and do. The atmosphere is amazing, food good and you don't need to speak Spanish (I didn't speak a word that first time).
Go. In a while you won't remember the money - only a lovely holiday.
