A bit of a tangent here re: RTW flights for Aussies and Kiwis.
A flight from Melbourne to New York takes about 21 to 23 hours (via Los Angeles). A flight from Melbourne to Paris (via Dubai or Singapore) takes about 21 to 23 hours also. A flight from Paris to New York is about 6 hours I think. So after flying to Europe from Australia east coast, one might as well continue around the world. The cost is not much more that a return to Europe (or NY). I've done this 3 times when visiting my boys in NY - I have a bit of a look around a small part of Europe and/or UK before or after NY, and a stopover somewhere interesting in Asia. (South Korea was great...)
Oh dear - just when I was thinking my travelling days are over I start dreaming again ...
