Okay so I'm watching this one on the "Love Has Won" cult.
Holy crap what people believe...
They literally let someone drink and starve themselves to death

Yes, holy crap is precisely what it is.

I read something a while back that was like -- gullibility is something that helps us survive in childhood. I.e., if Mom says 'don't touch the stove' and you believe her, then you don't get burned. So it's something our species evolved with that may have helped us survive in the past, but uh not so much now.
But anyway yeah, sounds like those people are deranged

I watched the "Twin Flames" documentary recently.
How anyone believes the dude who thinks he's Jesus I have no idea.
And then there was the insanity of NIXXIM or whatever it was called.
Why are the leaders such looser-bros?

Oh... it's a weird woman god leader, well that makes a change.

I guess that's feminism, women can be batshit manipulators too.
There are some good podcasts on BBC Radio 4, like 'intrigue' that cover various cult movements. Makes gardening more interesting.

The NXIUM or whatever insanity is extra weird because Nexium is a tradename for something you take if you have stomach problems. Not what I'd choose if I were starting an authoritarian sex cult, but maybe that's just me.

Nexium, for acid reflux.

As opposed to NXIVM, the weird cult... that cut an emblem into the upper thigh/groin area of an elite group of female members
Like how brainwashed can you be?
Now watching Web's documentary... super weird

I was talking about NXIVM on the weekend because of the Smallville actress who was tied up in it

The Documentary that Webs was talking about is available later today locally. I'll have to watch it.

I realize I might have been a bit stoned when I watched that thing last night because I took two sleep gummies instead of one and whhoooo the loopy.

Part three is now available...
They're really loopy already, I mean sweet people, but utterly idiotic. "God Mother" clearly needs medical help and they're giving her colloidal silver. But she keeps drinking alcohol at seemingly high levels.
Euurgh.

I had a friend at university who ended up working her way through 'the forum', which is a part of Landmark Education, which isn't quite a cult, but does have many characteristics of one.
There is definitely a 'type', she has since gone through periods of following various 'cult-lite' ideologies. I'm not sure what she's looking for.

Yeah, former colleague did the Landmark thing for years. I'd call it an MLM rather than a cult, and she tried to convince me but I hated the idea of training in a big room with thousands of others.
She's lovely and sane, but at some point she woke up and went "I've paid a lot of money for training and it's not worth it" and quit.
In the documentary one it's a real brain-washing drug-induced money-scamming cult with sooooo many weird things. There are no experts pontificating though so it's just all the weird people talking.

I watched the first episode and found it really interesting. But having googled the story and the state she was in at the end, I'm not sure I want to watch any more.

I watched the first episode and found it really interesting. But having googled the story and the state she was in at the end, I'm not sure I want to watch any more. She becomes very sick, seems to be alcohol related liver problems which is treated with increasing amounts of colloidal silver... which is an unproven medicine and has the side effect of turning a person's skin blue... It's abuse. Some of the people were arrested but released... it's unlikely she would have consented to medical care.

I watched one on Disney+ about a Fundamentalist LDS cult that started murdering people. The Children (now adults) of the cult leader all had different answers on how many kids there were in the family.
