If you visit the Basilica of Sacré Coeur de Montmartre do use the funicular which takes you from the bottom of the hill up to the Sacré Cœur. There was a Häagen-Dazs Daz below where we went after visiting the Basilica. Great ice cream!
There is also the Carrousel de Saint-Pierre which is awesome. It’s Italian made and decorated with a Venetian theme. The top was pale blue.

If you go along that big wide road (must have been built so they could turn their bullock wagons, just like Wagga Wagga, really) towards that big arch thing at the top of the hill there's a McDonalds.

lisamnz - where are the kids based? How old roughly? Depending on their age, they might be happy with a half day at Disneyland. OTHOH Paris itself has things that kids would like - the metro trains with rubber wheels, a trip on the river, the funicular that Phar mentioned (but the area is crawling with touts and scammers - I stayed near there a 4-5 years ago.)

With a group of 4 (or more if grandparents go )perhaps consider a private shuttle. While the cost may generate a deep breath at first, costing out waits at train stations, they need a drink, need a loo etc etc it may be a feasible option, plus you can be far more flexible for any issues that arise.
I did a bit of Google as Disneyland is not quite my scene now, and average time from Central (ish) Paris was under an hour.

Webs I get your point, but it's also nice on a vacation to have a day apart from the people you're traveling with anyway. And Disneyland is expensive; it's not like just going to a movie you aren't super enthusiastic about. Plus it'll be nice for the kids to have a day with their grandparents.

Hagen Daz is one of those things where, I wouldn't choose to eat it on holiday because I can get it at home--I'd rather get something unique. But if I was travelling with kids, and knew they liked HD, and it was hot, and they needed bribing... HD it is! Or if it was too hot to try and track down a gelateria, I'd grab an HD in a cute cafe.
I think booking private transport for grandparents and kids is a good idea, along with buying some of those tickets that let you go in the express line. (or packing books for them to read while they wait.)
expectation management will be needed--if they know that they'll have long waits in lines, they can realistically choose which rides they want to go on in advance, rather than just whatever they see next and then not get to the ones they really wanted.
I've known people who were really no-nonsense/practical/"not buying overpriced brand name crap" who have taken their kids to Disneyland Paris more than once, and enjoyed it. this is easier from the UK, of course.

Yeah, to me Haagen-Dazs is just normal grocery store ice cream, but then it's always like that, what's normal isn't as exciting as something that's from some different place.

Friends are keen on theme parks and they plan in detail on which rides to go to, how to move around the park so they aren't doubling back too much, etc. Far more detail/regimented than I'd like, but it works for them. They also have priority access tickets which helps.

WE are planning four or five days in central Paris, and are good with finding lots of other things to do, the younger child very specifically wants to see the Eiffel tower having seen/read lots of engineering type info about it. The kids are 13 and 11. We are travelling from NZ and will be away for five weeks all up with roughly two weeks in the UK, one week Paris, one week Barcelona, one week travelling home via a few days in Singapore. They happily spent entire days at movieworld, sea world, and wet n wild on the Gold Coast and were surprisingly tolerant of waiting in long queues, and that was in hot weather, so I imagine they'll be fine with a full day at Disneyland.

Maybe you should just go because seeing your kids joy at being there might be worth it.Or can you talk them into Parc Asterix. Either way it's only about an hour to each from Paris. You keep saying how horrible it would be for you but think about all the things you make them do that they think are horrible. How much of this vacation have they been allowed to plan? piss off Webs. Their priorities, needs and requests have been considered in the vast majority of the holiday. About the only things we'll be doing that they would probably prefer not to do is to visit UK-based relatives that they've either never met or were very little when they last met. Given it will probably be their only chance to see the kids as they are elderly, I think we can agree it's reasonable to expect the kids to sit through at least one or two boring afternoons. Honestly. You have NO IDEA how much of our life is focused on accommodating our kids' needs.

So send them to fucking disney with their grandparents and dad and take fucking day off.

I wonder why I am surprised that certain people cannot comprehend the fact that, what for them “was the best day of their lives” for others would be living hell. What is wrong with saying “I loved it for x/y/z reason but it might not be for everyone”?
I hate crowds, don’t like Disney, and get super sick on any rides. So thanks, but no thanks.
But if you are free for a day in Paris let me know, I take the Eurostar, have some food with you and maybe visit a museum😊

Might be tricky, depends when - if you give me plenty of notice I can have a look at Eurostar costs, and see if I have to take multiple days off, which might be difficult (limited annual leave). But worth investigating!
Are you in the UK at some point as well?
