I'm going to my cousin's wedding in Brisbane in April. I've decided to get my hair and makeup done because it's going to be a big fancy pants family wedding and I feel like an ugly heffalump. Dumb question from me...but does it matter what order I get them applied? Makeup then hair? Or hair then makeup? I figured it would be better to get makeup first and then hair? I can't imagine my hair would need to be washed and that is the only thing that would make me otherwise hesitant about makeup first. I'm looking at booking the Mecca Glam in case anyone wondered: www.mecca.com/en-au/services-events/mecca-glam-D-034191/$150 to have my makeup applied and then I can buy $150 in products for "free". I can definitely spend $150 in Mecca so that's no problem alternatively I could get them to do my face in the natural style for $120 but that's a bit dull. I wanna try 'glam'. BTW I know I can do my own makeup and hair. But I just want to feel a bit special. Also prepare for more posts later on about dresses and shoes. It's the social event of the season for me and I wanna look nice. Dress code is formal so I will be asking if this that or the other is formal enough!

How long are you going to be in Brisbane? Any time for side trips or pissups?

Probably not unfortunately but if I can do something I would like to. Technically we are there for 5 nights but it's a late arrival and early departure so we are there for practically speaking the day before the wedding, the day of, the day after. I have one potential free day (the Monday) but have likely booked that up already!
I'm then flying to Sydney for 2 nights (23rd and 24th April, leaving 25th around 630pm).

** thinks back to the only times I've ever had this done when I was a bridesmaid x 2 in the late 80s! **
I feel sure we had the hair done first then the make up, but this could be a convenience thing and simply doesn't matter, particularly if you're not having hair washed.
I look forward to your posts about dresses and shoes (shoes, especially the shoes!)

Shoes will be interesting! I haven't worn "proper" heels since before hip operation and won't be able to really start now. But I hope they will still be nice n dressy.

When Mrs Jimm was Mother of the Groom she had her hair done first and then makeup. The makeup artist came to our accom in Harlem and did my daughter and SiL as well.

That was one option too. As it is just for me (my cousins and aunties are doing everything separately) the Mecca option looks good.

Have you heard of Bared shoes? They are very comfortable and cater for wider or narrower feet with their options. Started by podiatrists. Not that cheap, but worth the $s because you wear them all day every day. Or for every special event :-D

Yes! I will be going there and to Frankie4 when I arrive! Looking forward to it. I've seen good sales on Frankie4's NZ page but don't like to buy online until I know the fit better.
Another thing...hotels/apartments. Gah. I found a decent place and my father has flat out said no. Why? Because he doesn't want to stay at the same place the aunties are staying. Then I found a place but it charges $25 a day Internet!! WTF. I hadn't realised my time machine back to 2006 was operational.

Where in Brisbane is the wedding? I know an affordable apartment hotel on Coronation Drive with a great view of the river.

Oh please let me know. It's im either the queensland art gallery or museum or modern art. I forget which but yes please.
Choosing a place has proven to be somewhat problematic due to some requirements and me needing to manage expectations but also about some people not wanting to be outdone or stay at a :lesser" place than others. I'm looking at cbd or Southbank hotel apartments.

Fish, I remember from my daughter’s wedding, it was makeup first, then hair. It’s important to do the makeup first because the makeup artist has the chance to smooth the makeup around the hairline and jaw without having to worry about messing up the styled hair.
