There's an old old saying that a woman loses a tooth per pregnancy. This is the reason that in the UK*, dentistry was free during pregnancy and for a year after. *Almost certainly not the case any more and assumes you have an NHS dentist which is unlikely these days. Nope. Still free here, but yes it assumes everyone has an NHS dentist, which is almost impossible these days.

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the thing about presidential immunity.
If they agree with presidential immunity Biden should immediately declare himself president for life - There could be no legal recourse.
Oh, and for extra fun, they won't hear oral arguments until end of April... which affects some of the 91 other cases he's dealing with.
Honestly the US is not very good at democracy. Maybe a King would be a good idea for a while - Harry's already there!

The Supreme Court is appalling. Well, the majority is, at least.

I feel so sorry for Ketanji Brown Jackson. She got confirmed after an almost abusive hearing and now she's stuck in this dysfunctional court. At least she has Sotomayor and Kagan to keep her company.

The automatic insertion of the orange menace has broken that link. Just copy and paste the link into your browser and reverse the replacement - if you want to see the article.

Apparently he wants a retrial of the Carroll case. Not an appeal, a retrial. Because the judge limited his testimony so he couldn't defend himself, his family and the presidency. And that this affected the jury. Given that his testimony was rather quickly shown to be full of lies it's possible the judge did him a favour. shorturl.at/ceAK4

If he outlives me I am going to be SO disappointed.
Nikki Haley won Vermont! But 4 delegates isn't quite enough to pull it off, Nikki.
I barely looked at the news last night - this election season is something to be endured.

I had gotten back to watching the news again. May have to stop again. The battle of 2 old guys who should be not running a country. Don't get me wrong, I am still voting blue.

How can Biden and his supporters not see the hypocrisy in sending munitions to Israel, while also spending loads of money on bringing in aid by air or sea because Israel is restricting or downright preventing the delivery of aid by land??

honestly, this whole thing is just demonstrating how incredibly ineffective our global political organisations are. Israel doesn't care what anyone says - ICJ, UN, whatever.

Well yes, I agree that we should change the policies right now so as to withdraw military support until their government stops doing horrible things in Gaza. I do think we should continue providing some sort of support because Israel (despite its government's current behavior) needs to remain a refuge for Jewish people, but I agree that some sort of strong (financial/military equipment-related) message needs to be sent.
However, unfortunately, ha ha: right now we have a government that is completely dysfunctional - it's Congress that sets up (and removes) funding like that, not just Biden, and Congress because of the Republicans can't even manage to fund our day-to-day internal governmental functions, forget straightening out foreign policy. I mean, we're this close to becoming an authoritarian nightmare ourselves.
This country should never have set itself up as the savior and policeman of the world, but it did, and now we're in a really bad international situation because of it.

I guess these are the complexities we don't really see and they don't really come across in media because all the reporting says "Biden is going to xxxx" when it's probably not him at all, he's just the mouthpiece?

Yeah, media simplifies things.
Congress is in charge of developing budgets and authorization of large spending packets. So it's really about Congress coming up with a consensus position and then that bill finally going to the President to authorize. His role is to help them come up with ideas and come to consensus, and then to sign off (or veto) bills when they hit his desk.
He can do some things independently, by signing executive orders and such, but it's politically dicey, and it's not just an election year but an unusually fraught one, so I think the Dems are trying not to do anything too unilateral so as to not give the Reps any more ammunition for their insane base. Which is so sad, considering people are dying, but if the Menace wins the election then there'll be nothing for Gaza or Ukraine either, for that matter, or anyone female or gay or Black etc etc here in the United States, so that's where we are.
Because he won't follow the rules and will gladly do things unilaterally, and the right-wing Supreme Court will happily back him up.

I remember an interview with an Obama aid who said something like "the President has a lot of power in theory, but much less than you expect in reality"
I wish the predecessor had got that message.

Today is my state primary. I don't know if I will vote. My state is rather set in stone as to red and blue areas. I can't be arsed to figure out the school issue. If it was a governor election year I would. Love our governor.

Do go and vote, for statistical purposes.
Staying home, by too many, gives the impression that your party doesn't care.

I love my blue state trying to get agent orange off the ballot. I realize that the majority are around Chicago but who da ef cares!! Are you referring to the Chemical compound Agent Orange which was a herbicide mixture used by the U.S. military during the Vietnam War? Agent Orange was sprayed at up to 20 times the concentration the manufacturers recommended for killing plants.
