Is it a stereotype? "holiday romance" is a long-running shadow economy, and it's no longer just younger women targeting middle aged men. a surprising number of people don't realise it's a business transaction, and they end up losing quite a lot of money with no love to show at the end. Being aware that this happens protects tourists.
On the other hand, an old school friend in Canada married a Haitian guy, and it took them at least 4 years to get him to Canada--largely because of the assumption by immigration officials that no one in the Carribean islands would genuinely LOVE a Canadian. That was depressing.

sex tourism will always exist as long as there are rich less than attractive paying younger poorer beautiful young people for sex & the government likes the tourism income. men are brazen. when i waiting for bus home on nathan road, a tourist offered me cash for sex.
i have met women who vacation separately from their husbands, just to have a local romance
sprite that sucks for your friend. why? bc no canadian can fall in love with a haitian?
harmless flirting is fun neither party expects more, just some banter.

Oh, immigration believes firmly that Canadians can fall in love with people from poor countries. But people from poor countries are all cheats and liars. (She met him at his church while she was on holiday!)

Yeah, I have 3 friends who all married women from the philippines, that they met through those pre-internet catalogue things. One was a really good match, he thought it would be interesting to write to someone from anywhere in Asia, and they've been together for over 20 years. The other two didn't work out; one guy just isn't good at being married, and the other guy was really looking for a pliable submissive wife who would be ever so grateful for a visa. She thought she was getting a nice man in a more stable country. I have a memory that she left him before even getting permanent residency. So, so much for the idea that everyone is desperate to live in a rich country.

know a poor bloke who was totally scammed married, had a kid, got permanent residence. took him for half of everything then moved on to another guy, who interestingly, physically resembles the first man
@ the us embassy in bangkok, a farang asked tzar what kind of visa did you get her? "excuse me see this american passport. dont fucking assume every asian woman is a mail order bride" a young guy behind me chuckled it was when you could get extra pages sewn in your passport. it was way cheaper than stateside

I have two brothers who have or had very happy marriages to Filipina women. ,(one died a few years ago). Neither wife is submissive! But I also have come across some horror stories about Asian or Eastern European wives in the course of my career.

Well I only got hit on once at the most touristy beach.
Otherwise it's really chilled and people are generally nice - besides woman working in food trucks, the ones I went to were all rather grumpy, not only with me but also the locals. Maybe looking scary and shouting at customers is part of the job description!
