Reading the family history thread has been interesting.
I started thinking about all these "snapshots" of lives long past and that this is how our lives are distilled down to a couple of anecdotes.
What do you think you'll be remembered for? Shooting a rifle out of the window? Being the new cop to bust a brothel?
(I'm thinking about mine and will report back)

Yes, I think everyone is clicking on this and then going off to think about it a bit!

Where my current practices are front of mind it might be something like "she used to drive nearly 1000km there and back to go to WORK".
Most likely my sister and I will be lumped together and it will be something like "and that branch of the family ended there" (neither of us have children).
What I'd like to be remembered for is my beautiful garden or my flair for cooking :-)

It's weird to think of people remembering you when you're gone. I read somewhere that you live until the last person dies who remembered who you were. The next generation, Spawn, is where my family line ends, because they have no kids, just a Puggle, and I don't think the Puggle thinks much about me other than as someone to give a scritch and say "Hullo Maggie, are you still very cute? Yes you are. Yes yes you are. Oh yes what a cute cute doggo." But Maggie cannot convey this to a later generation.
Anyway, I suppose some younger people might remember me as the person who led field trips and could get Really Excited about dragonflies and red maple flowers, and was kind of a music nerd.

When they clean out my house, it will be "didn't she ever notice all this dog hair?" Or "why did she keep all of these coffee bags?"

Whilst I don't have my own kids to remember me, I do hope that I have managed to touch some of my students' lives and that those who go on to use their German later in life might occasionally think back on that crazy teacher of theirs who used to gallop round the classroom on a broom to beat out the metre of a poem about someone riding horseback!

I have a few kids named after me.. both here and in Guatemala. And my family will probably pass on the story of how my husband and I met (he picked me up hitchhiking and I was engaged to someone else) and possibly some of my travel adventures. Hopefully some stories of how my family ended up in Canada.

THe member of the family who went off to work in all those exotic places. The irony is, as soon as you live in a place, it's no longer exotic.
I hope students will remember me as a teacher who found fun in lanuage learning, even though it's often difficult.

That is such an interesting question.
For me, I think the main thing would be emigrating to Australia when I was 22.

I guess only my niece and nephew will remember me, and I hope they remember me as the fun aunt that lived abroad, and loved them loads. And they will remember my cats!
