So in my quest to Actually Watch Movies I got a DVD from the library of that film from last year "The Menu," since I think something darkly humorous about high-end cuisine will be very amusing.
Have any of you seen it? Requesting spoilers because my only concern is if the "surprisingly violent" bit has a cannibal angle. The two things I really don't like in films are vomiting and cannibals. Oh, and soft rock soundtracks, but I don't think I have to be concerned about that here.

I'm trying to remember if there was cannibalism in it.
It's definitely dark and twisted but from memory I don't think there was cannibalism but I can't be 100% sure.

Thank you! I would think you'd remember that, unless you watch a lot of restaurant cannibalism movies.

It's more it's a weird movie where lots happens - it's the kind of movie where cannibalism wouldn't be out overly surprising.

I don't think you have to consider Phlebas.

And that's why I never saw "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover." As I recall there was poop, too.
I remember you trashed The Menu last year, but I've spent a lot of time in three-star restaurant land and I can't resist the idea of a violent satire. If I like it we can have a "The Menu" critic fight (lol)

OK so I saw it, and I really enjoyed it.
Not subtle at all, but hey it was billed as a comedy, and I thought it was pretty hilarious. I've been to a lot of Michelin-star Restaurants as Religious Experience types of places like that, so yeah of course the movie was waist-deep in pretentiousness but it wouldn't have been as satisfyingly accurate if it hadn't been. The recurring bit with the restaurant reviewer about the broken emulsion made me lol.
It was weird cooking dinner right after watching that.
