So I freelance for a few places, including a publisher and an advertising agency. I enjoy doing something different to managing a bunch of immature advisors, and the work is quite varied.
I've been translating a fair few book reviews and synopses lately, and I invariably find that the synopses are well written and 'fun' to translate, whereas the reviews are clearly written by people who find more importance in using clever words or turns of phrase than in the actual content. They're definitely getting their money's worth as I try to produce a translation which isn't complete gobbledygook.
Seriously, when you feel compelled to say things that equate to (only paraphrasing slightly) 'It is frustrating to contemplate an exhaustive definition to describe xyz novel for multiple reasons." you should put the laptop away and come back when you think of something to say. This is just filling column space, and says nothing about the novel yet reveals plenty about your inability to produce a decent review.
Feel free to join me in ranting. What would you like to say and to whom? Let's make a day of it.
Edited in an attempt to make more sense. Excuse any errors. I don't proofread myself on here!

I would like to tell one of my Profs to stop being so supercilious. Granted some of us saw the inside of a college 20+ years ago, but that doesn't mean we're idiots!

I would like to tell one of my Profs to stop being so supercilious. Granted some of us saw the inside of a college 20+ years ago, but that doesn't mean we're idiots! Is it possible he's jealous because he's never spent time outside one? My rant to certain work colleagues - just go do your job and stop fretting about my projects.
