I like the idea of protecting it from google and non-members. I had a thread I started on WT about a rather questionable business in my local area copied and posted to their site and several others. It created something of a problem at work.

Listen, GT is to protect you folks from the likes of ME. Honestly I think there has to be a pre-post limit. 25 was just a suggestion.

We already know and trust those who are here now so let's just give the password to whoever pm and asks for it. For any unknown / new posters in future make it minimum of 10 posts before they can get the password.
Then if they betray the trust they get banned from there.

I think it's a good idea to share the password now and make it 25 going forward. What do you think?

My two cents - I 'm not sure that this is the place for a private GT branch. Facebook works for that sort of thing because you can start a conversation and invite only the people you want to it - or you can put it on your timeline knowing that only your friends see it - it's not open to the world. With a BB like this, you can't constrain those sorts of topics to friends only or invitees only without looking like a private club of some sort. This place just isn't set up for that sort of thing. It's too public a place for private discussions. You'd run into the same kind of criticism that the Pot has gotten. [/two cents]

I didn't really want to make a big deal about it. Thanks for the clarification of the intent.

wombat - i think it was a fair comment and i think that establishing the guidelines early is a good way to begin.

OzLuv, that´s what I thought too, but many people aren´t on FB, and we can still show potential trolls out. It´s not perfect, but that´s probably the only means to keep things "private."

I guess what I'm asking is - do we need a "private" area at all? Won't people who are good friends here become friends on FB for more personal things? (I'm just asking - I don't pretend to know the answers.) To me, a BB is a community forum, which should stay really open. The fact that the other place wasn't as welcome and open as you'd expect, was a huge source of criticism. My concern is that this place will be seen as cliquish (not that we haven't been accused of that before... but, well, it would be nice if we could avoid that.)

Hello! I'd just like to say that I am not impersonating my own handle.
The personal stuff was one on the most amazing things about WT, and I can see that making it more private has a value. And I don't think FB is the place for that, because I have actively chosen not to have many TT FB friends - I like t compartmentalise my online life.

So - what I'm saying is - I think that GT should not be password protected, but instead, closely moderated. Nothing stopped people from registering other handles to post sensitive information on TT, and as it was a public board, of course, you'd get the occasional snarky comment, but that was to be expected and you just don't post it in a forum if you aren't prepared for all of the responses. Thoughts? OK - never mind. Looks like it's been decided.

ozluv, we were always seen as cliquish. That's not going to change.
What it will do, however, is prevent people having guests view things, and give people a more hand holdy environment to voice their troubles if they have them.
Also, The whole rest of the forum is open for snarky comebacks, poking in the eye and telling people to just buck the fuck up. Rather than have a WHOLE board, where people have to walk on eggshells, it's only one small section where we really have to be respectful of others boundries.

I think you should put that last paragraph as the important info for GT it's clear and concise

Ozluv, I found out with the demise of the tree that someone from another part of my life worked out who I was over TWO years ago on WT and kept on reading and lurking and never posting. I like the idea of a closed section for private stuff so that there aren't lurkers I don't know about reading it. And if it is open to everyone eventually after meeting a post count (not the whole 'we'll only let you in if we like you') then I don't see it as being exclusive, but being protected.
