The dog had his hair cut short yesterday. I did it because he had to have his ears and face shaved because he has an infection and the vet needed to do it.
It's going to be -14 this weekend. We just got back from our morning walk and he's shivvering.
I feel so bad. Am I a bad mum? I tried to get him into a coat that I found at the charity shop but he wont wear it.

No not a bad mum... can you distract him with food while you put it on him? Molly refused to wear hers at first but now she comes to get it put on when she is cold lol

Not a bad mum if he needed it done anyway. I'll happily send some of our (projected) 42C for Saturday over to you to keep him warm.

I didn't buy it. It was only £3. Maybe I'll go get it this afternoon.
I feel so bad. He's half the size he was yesterday and he's shivering on his chair. Sometimes I am so glad I couldn't have kids. I dont think I could deal with the guilt and the worry.

I guess dogs deal with all extremes of temperature and I'm being daft as usual.
My friend imported her German Shephard from Oxford to turkey and they had 50 degrees this summer and he was fine. Kept jumping in the pool.

You would be a bad dog mum if you wouldn't take him to the vet to get his infection treated, so don't worry. When he goes asleep just wrap him up in a blanket or a towel.

Yeah, he's all wrapped up in a fleece jumper. Poor thing. WAIL!

Dying your dog a dreadful pink colour is bad mum (saw it on a poor pup in the park). Having a hair cut to help treat an infection and keep the coat under control is a doing a good thing.

He does get dreadlocks very easily. Especially after all the rain we've been having and his tendency to roll in mud and fox shit.
Imagine dying your dog pink!

Belle has to wear boots- but she hates them. I just give her tons of treats and keep moving. She eventually gets over them. He will, too- I'm sure!
The fact that he spends time swaddled in a fleece tells me he is a very pampered pup :]

maybe he didn't want it because it smelled of another dog.

Can you reward him with treats for wearing the coat?

Not a bad dog mum. Leaving the fur in place would have been a bad thing to do.
Maybe get him a cat bed for the boat? One of those covered up ones that he could snuggle into and keep warm in? And yes, treats and walking on the lead for the jacket - he'll need it this weekend!

We just had a fight trying to get him in the coat before our evening walk.
I'm in the countryside now so am in a nice, warm house that my friend lent me for 6 weeks so he's happy right now.
It's that bloody boat, I tell you. Fed up with it.

you are not a bad dog mom.... but you are letting him get away with it. It's obvious who's in control here. (says someone who occasionally lets her dog rest on her head). I find sweaters are better than 'coats', and jstd has several. If you find his coat gets matted in some weather, then perhaps he needs regular trimming and grooming. jstd has to be groomed/hair cut several times a year. It's part of the drill of owning a non shedding dog. And he HATES| it, has to have a tranquilizer, and after being 'sent' home from three groomers, i now have to drive 45minutes across town to a 'specialist' who deals with difficult dogs. He is getting better. And yes, he doesn't like putting his sweater on, but once it's on, it doesn't bother him. Don't let him control you. it's a struggle with jstd sometimes to establish who is boss. If you want me to knit a sweater for him, let me know the length from collar to tail, and the circumference of his chest. I don't know if we can post pictures here, or i would post one of him sweatered up. take a look here on pb. www.photoblog.com/kitegypsy/2012/11/22/rain-and-shame.htmlwww.photoblog.com/kitegypsy/2010/11/22/what-the-h-is-going-on.html

canay, I love you. You are my dog mum guru.
I'll have another go tomorrow before we go out. I just feel guilty all the time.
Those knitted coats are GORGEOUS. You really are one talented lady you know. I'd love you to knit one. I'll try find a tape measure in the house I'm staying at. Let me know the cost of it and postage. I like the fair isle. It'd go beautifully with his coat. Have you seen a picture of him?
