thank heavens for leftovers
On days like today, I love my freezer
It's 46 deg C outside. yes, celsius. positive.
I'm too hot, the kids are too hot, we've hidden almost all day inside, we're going stir crazy; I can't take the kids to the pool as the pool times are gender segregated and my boys are now too old (over 6) to be allowed in the womens section
and so naturally as my body decides fuck it I'll slob all day, I realise I cannot be arsed to cook
so I don't
I love my freezer on days like today. Days where I just cannot be done chopping and slicing and grinding, and stirring, and stirring, and stirring.
Days when I look at my beautiful wide boy gas oven, with 5 gas hobs, including a central mega wok one, and think, "no".
I open my freezer, my beloved freezer. There in the freezer is a double portion of "mummy's special rice" (aka bacon & roast chicken & pea risotto) that has been demanded of me by two growing hungry boys half an hour earlier.
I love my freezer.

Am seriously envying the sound of your oven/stove. But you're right, on a day like today, forget it. I'd be tempted just to climb in the damn freezer myself!

Yay for leftovers!
I do wish I had a larger freezer so I could keep enough things for those slob days.

I'm the same as HD. Would love to do this more but our freezer portion is not massive.
We've been taking about getting another freezer to out in the garage since we moved in 5 years ago and still haven't got around to it.

Well I have a small chest freezer in the kitchen from days when I had ten tonnes of frozen baby food (I had 2 under 2 at one stage). I also have a mega fridge freezer American style, which has to sit in out hallway, as it is too big for the current kitchen door (we moved house and no way was I getting rid of my big beastie )

I am so bummed that we don't have a powerpoint in our garage, otherwise I'd put a small freezer down there so I could store more food. Being in an apartment we don't have room for a second freezer, so I have to make do with the tiny fridge freezer.
I do get kitchen envy when I watch various TV property shows

I couldn't live without a freezer. well, obviously, I could, but.... supper this evening was frozen leftover guiness beef stew (my crockpot always makes enough for two family meals) and leftover frozen mashed potatoes & carrots (again I make double portions and freeze half) when I'm working full time, and with two young kids, and a husband who's on holiday, and it's stupidly hot so I cannot be arsed going out, my freezer is my best friend. we made smoothies at the weekend - guess how? frozen peeled bananas (prepped months ago), same with strawberries, berries, and mango. add a bit of orange juice, whizz up and instant ice cold smoothies

on hot days like that, basically we don't eat. Jelly and ice-cream, iced fruit - plenty of cold icy drinks. Salad sandwich for anyone who may be hungry. Otherwise the kitchen isn't used.

This house runs on leftovers - I always cook more than is needed for one meal, although I don't freeze much, it's usually eaten the same week.
Ditto for really hot weather - salads rule.

I have various 'assembled' meal ideas for the really hot days. It helps that the supermarket is such a short walk away so I can pick up things to chuck together with minimal cooking and give us a break from salads

Leftovers are my lunches, so I am very happy with them as well ;-) Very economical and I don't have to fuss over 'what's for lunch'.

I could eat salad all year round, so probably not being much help. As to leftovers, we somehow never seem to have them. What ones we do have just seem to disappear after being placed in the fridge.

I love my freezer - at least 4 evenings during the week are "leftover" days - although I don't really call it leftover as I cook to freeze on purpose. Always have a good selection of one portion meals, beef stew, enchiladas, pasta bakes, risotto, paella, chili con carne, thai red curry...
I'm both unable to cook one portion and unwilling to cook just for me after work. So my system works really well for me as I still have homemade food without much effort!
Oh, and the freezer is obviously essential as well to store my stash of german bread and sausages/cold cuts;-)

My house would run on leftovers too if EGB wouldn't sneak into the kitchen and pick at them while he's "cleaning up the kitchen" before I've had a chance to pack them away into Tupperware. At least while I'm on my own at the moment I actually get to have some leftover lunches!

when we go back to the uk, we are seriously considering getting a small chest freezer. we have a decent sized freezer (bottom half of large fridge) but it gets full up fast.
