I'm thinking of doing a nice dinner for the two of us for Friday night (Hallowe'en). I'm looking for suggestion of autumnal food. I had been think something like butternut squash risotto, or dhal. Not looking for "gory" food or food that looks like eyeballs or anything like that. I want to leave space for eating junk while watching scary movies after dinner too! I am just at a loss for something kinda special but autumny/Hallowe'eny. Anyone any ideas?

What about popcorn balls for movie time? As a kid (back in the day when you could get homemade treats), popcorn balls were a favourite treat to get.
I have no real suggestions for dinner - fall/autumn food is comfort food for me which typically doesn't fall under nice or special! Hot apple cider? Stews are fall food or chili with corn bread but again, not really romantic fare.
let us know what you decide (and take pictures - we need more pictures around here!)

Oh there will be popcorn and maltesers for movie time. I'm kinds glad that other people can't think of anything specially autumny in a way as I had thought that I was just being really uncreative.

I always make a curried West African peanut squash/pumpkin soup. Basically fry up onions and garlic with oil and curry paste. Add a couple of chopped up tomatoes if you like. Add lots of oven roasted or grated squash and a couple of litres of stock. Cook until the squash is soft. Add a really big spoonful of peanut butter. Mash or purée or leave chunky. Sprinkle with either chopped cilantro, red peppers or swirl with yogurt.
