Next month I have 8 hour stopovers (daytime) in both these places.
Not struggling for things to do in Munich, but any tips for Frankfurt? A nice area to walk around and get something to eat before a long flight maybe?
(I visited as part of a school trip years ago, but it didn't leave much of an impression!)

I have to spend five weeks in a hotel in Frankfurt (Mon to Thur) in August and September! But right now I have no suggestions I'm afraid.

hmmm. thinking hard. but I only spend half a day or so in Frankfurt years ago, quite liked it - to wander around, but don't remember much specific stuff. Thing that stands out most is a great exhibition I saw there on the Blaue Reiter group of artists. but that doesn't help you check with tulip?

Tucano, could you share your Munich ideas with me? I'll be there next week for work. I'll be busy all day but in theory I could wander around at night... I'll be staying near the Messe München conference center.

Hey lola. I think the plan is to wander around the Olympic park and the old city centre. And drink beer (maybe in one of the famous beer halls). This is not a bad overview of the different districts wikitravel.org/en/MunichA friend of mine was there last weekend, I'll ask if she has any tips.

Munich is lovely.
I really like the Viktualienmarkt - the market with all sorts of good things to eat - and apparently it's open til 8pm (maybe not all stalls though).
German shops are also generally open til 7 or 8 (though not at all on Sundays).
You can go up the tower in the Olympic park and it's open til midnight.

A friend of mine posted pictures from Frankfurt just last night on Facebook - I was pleasantly surprised that there are, in fact, a few picturesque areas in the centre. I remember very little about downtown Frankfurt itself - it's only ever been a jumping off point. From what I recall, directly on the other side of the Main River is the area called Sachsenhausen (nothing to do with the concentration camp of the same name) which has nice wine bars, cobbled streets, etc.

I quite like Bornheim - take the U4 from Hauptbahnhof to Bornheim Mitte and walk back towards the centre on Berger Strasse. lots of little independent eateries, little cute shops, and nice parks.

Ah, shame I missed your suggestion Romily. It was 33C in Frankfurt today so we wandered in and out of the shade in the old centre and by the river.
Had a great dinner of salmon cooked on a hot stone at the restaurant by Eschenheimer Term for only 13 euros including salad and a side. Would recommend the place for dinner.
