we're invited at my brother's for the 26th and have raclette there. they will have all the regular things for raclette there (whatever that is, i had raclette so far once in my life, more than ten years ago, actually at a lp-pissup) - is there anything special that might not occur to people right away to put on a raclette but that tastes really good, that i could bring along? (alternatively, if i can't find anything like that, i might make a dessert to bring along, so suggestions of something easy to prepare and christmassy are good too) ...

Oh, we've done loads of non traditional raclette stuff -it horrifies the Swiss!
Chorizo is good, we've also done things like roasted capsicum slices, baby corn, er, can't think at the moment, but I'm sure Riverhorse will add some things.
Wise words from Lizby: And if you have any free time, my advice is that it's ALWAYS better to read a book than do housework
Lots of veggies- sliced peppers, small green asparagus, small corn cobs, sugar snap peas, small pickled gherkins and onions, mushrooms, and so on. Plus different meats - we usually have some good dry cured ham, and some spicy salami type meat. And of course the cooked potatoes and the lovely cheese! Also IMO spices make a huge difference - pepper, paprica, different herbs, chili.
It's our annual new years eve dish, as you can just socialise and eat forever, one small pan after the other, with different ingredients. I'm looking forward to it already!
