I know I'm old when I enter my birth year in a form and it's from the 1950s, which sounds long enough ago to have been the 1850s.

Hard to follow Julie Andrews, but:

Or even just scrolling through the years looking for your birth year online.

Watching a tour match with England last night and they were playing a Cricket Australia team (so not the main representative team, but up and coming players) and realising one of the players was born in the year 2000!

You don't feel old at all and don't consider yourself an old person either but then you name some famous Hollywood actors and actresses and you get blank stares from those around you and they look at you like you've suddenly grown two heads!

Fifty years ago yesterday Johnny Cash recorded Live at Folsom Prison. I was a grown-up. I was at school but I loved Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues, all of them. This was recorded live at Folsom Prison.

You're discussing moments you'll never forget, mention when the Berlin wall came down and everyone else in the room stares at you blankly. You suddenly realise that you're teaching university students that were born after you graduated. Yeh. That's a feeling I've had. I have some students that I am old enough to be their mom...without having had them when I was a teenager. Realizing that required chocolate to cope with.

Realizing that you are now about the same age your grandparents were when you were a kid.... Realising you're the same age your grandmother was when she died... I'm 10 years older than my maternal grandmother was when she died. When I turn 48 later this year, I will have lived longer than my mother.

As of about a week ago, the Berlin Wall has been down for longer than it was up. Cool piece of trivia. I caught the tail end of a documentary about the end of the wall last week, how people were taking away pieces of it for weeks before the final "end". Now guessing that's why it was on.

We had one of the few remaining Video and DVD rental stores in our area. It closed last week. And so a whole industry that started in my lifetime has pretty much ended in my lifetime. And I realised LC will never know what it is to go to the local video shop and search for a movie to rent for the weekend.

When one of your cousins becomes a grandmother (and what's her daughter doing being in her late 20s, married and with a baby? I remember when she was born!) also it means two of my other cousins are now great-aunts. Heh, heh, heh (in a nice way, obviously).

Yesterday I stood by and let the young person at the tile centre load the heavy boxes of tiles into my car. I have left them in the car, parked it conveniently close to the worksite, and the much younger and fitter tilers can unload the tiles as needed.

I can remember the first time we had ever heard of a VCR - we were watching Columbo (you remember, the untidy looking detective in his baggy trench, whose trademark was to hassle and ask repeated questions of the guilty party), we see new technology, a VCR is used as the killer's alibi, it can record television programmes.
At the time of watching, the then husband and I looked at each other and said, what a brilliant idea. That's fantastic. It was quite a while before they filtered down to Downunder. When they did arrive here, we thought they were the best thing since sliced bread!
