I learned that Olive Spread consists largely of canola oil, palm oil (probably crude oil as well) and bugger all olives.

I learnt a lot about Krefft, an early director of the Australian Museum, at a special event at the museum last night. The story goes that he apparently discovered a new species while eating said fish for dinner. Not sure how much truth is in the dinner story, but he did work out that the lungfish was a different species and did name it. And I saw the chair that he was carried out on by two prizefighters when he was sacked from his position (the trustees of the day didn't like his position on Darwinism). Apparently it has become tradition that on leaving the director's job the directors are carried on this chair.

The Memsahib made a beautiful cake for granddaughters to take to school with their lunch. They love it but can not take it to school as it contains (among many other things) nuts.
School lunches regulations have changed since our kids went to school.

School lunches regulations have changed since our kids went to school. For which I am thankful. Though I had to have a chat with the school last year as one of the teachers had misunderstood what nut aware means (still can't bring in nuts, but the school realises sometimes people stuff up and so they can't guarantee it is 100% nut free). This teacher was actually telling parents when they asked that yes, they could send in a peanut butter sandwich. It could have been the way someone asked, but still, I was pretty cross considering this was going on in LC's actual grade. Anyway, tricky having the conversation with the principal without dropping any particular teachers in it, as I'd only heard it second and third hand and so couldn't be 100% sure what was said (but did know the result was parents were merrily sending in peanut butter or nutella sandwiches)

Jaywalking is not illegal in the UK. (gossip says it was only made illegal in North America because the motoring lobby wanted to be able to drive smoothly without watching for too many obstacles. Cannot confirm)

I have learnt jaywalking is not what I knew it to be. For years I thought it was walking diagonally across the road instead of in a straight line. Today I found that is not so.

There is little justice in this world, Oz. I once ran out of petrol while driving the wrong way down a one way street in Sydney's CBD (right outside DJs in Market Street to those who know Sydney). I had been drinking more than a little and a police car happened by just as I stopped. The helpful policemen ignored my plithered state, told me where I could find a petrol station, advised me not to take the short cut through Hyde Park and drove on.
Them was simpler times. I enjoyed them.

For $1.00 a Hong Kong merchant will send me a replacement remote control for my Apple TV - complete with silicone case and battery. For that money I can't even send a birthday card to my step-uncle who lives less than a kilometre away.

Perhaps I could send my step-uncle an Apple TV remote control. I wonder whether the Hong Kong merchant would be prepared to include a cheery greeting.
