I, like most, complain/rant about the changes made from book to film or TV series. However I must say I can't think of any I've ever seen that strayed/changed so much as the TV series "Pillars of earth".
It's a great book, with so much material yet there is so much changed / added that it's jaw-dropping. It's almost like it's based on a different book...

agreed. enjoyable book. unnecessarily reworked miniseries. both the beginning and the end of the film sucked ass. treat the audience like idiots.

there are worse things to watch, but i found it disappointing after the book. too manipulative of my emotions.

I agree! I had to read that book in high-school and I was so proud of myself... "look at this HUGE book I read" and it was a great read. Series was awesome too.
Ken Follett can spin a good yarn - I just finished two books by him "Fall of Giants" and "Winter of the World" and they were both wonderful.
