glad you're finding something to laugh at in that!!
'our' fox brought one of her kits to hang out in our back yard today. turns out, nearly full-grown fox kits are terrified of pigeons.

A very funny ABC TV interview with a very deadpan Adam Gilchrist. Incidentally, I have worked with both his parents.

There was some thread on twitter about the names children give animals and other things. And I giggle every time I think of the name one kid came up with for rhinos - battle unicorns!

This cartoon. Or more specifically, how it relates to my son. He has spent the past two days at a special festival for gifted kids, doing various workshops. I noticed when I picked him up this afternoon that he had his T shirt on back to front. This was very obvious as the pocket and design were on his back.

I am a great admirer of Gary Larsen's work and have the 2 volume set of his collected works. Around ten years ago I bought a second set and gave one volume each to our two kids (which may well be a misnomer as both would have been in their mid 30s by that time). When ultimately I fall off the twig, go to my reward or meet my maker the kinder will each inherit their second volume.

OK - that settles it. I've taken "The Complete Far Side Volume 1 1980 - 1984" down from the shelf and will be going to bed with Gary Larson.
A good thing is that he knew when to stop, as did Bill Watterson. Charles Schultz and others kept drawing beyond oblivion.

The teacher of the gifted and talented class had it in pride of place on her wall.

Today's laugh: Jackie Lambie (former Australian Senator) explaining her objections to the idea of using donor cells for parents to ensure a rare condition carried in mitochondria isn't passed on. She obviously has never heard of mitochondrial DNA.

Oh never mind I completely misread that, and had ozzie's former Senator looking like even more of an idiot than she deserved to be. Nothing to see here, move on....

Today was one of the hottest July days ever -temps in the mid 20s. It is also the opening night of one of the outdoor ice skating rinks. Yes, I laughed at the combination.
But also cried a bit - this is not good, people!

I backed into a handicapped-parking spot in front of the place where I needed to pick up something.
A cute little car marked Parking Enforcement pulled over just ahead of me. I said to Mr.W, "I bet they're itching to ticket me for unauthorized use of an HP spot."
I slowly picked up my purse, fished out my HP tag and hung it carefully on the rear-view mirror.
The cute little car blasted off instantly.
I laughed. Poor officer had been foiled on the revenue quest for a very expensive ticket. Poor baby.

This:
My mate has two tickets for the England vs Sweden game on Saturday. He didn't realise that it's going to be on the same day as his wedding, so he can't go. If you're interested and want to go instead of him, it's at St. Andrew's Church in Cambridge and her name is Sarah

I wish people policed the disabled parking spots here, psw. There's widespread abuse of them. When we really needed those spots with my husband, it would be so frustrating to find them all full, sometimes with cars without the sticker. I remember once just having to go home again, almost in tears, because the car park was so huge that no disabled spots being available made the trip impossible for him.
So yep, I'd be glad to see that little car.

L. When that happened to me with a disabled passenger and I had time and enough anger and it was safe I'd park behind them until I checked for a disabled sticker. Without a sticker I'd leave the car blocking their exit while I called the council to report it, get my passenger out, wait for the tow tŕuck then move my car while the other car was towed then move in. A few headlines in the local paper complete with carefully edited photos to hide identities and it sorted the issue for few months. Here fines are quite high, tow costs high and ridicule works wonders. I didn't care about the verbal abuse as a sense of entitlement isn't actually a real entitlement.

I landed at Brisbane international terminal on the evening of Maundy Thursday. The friend who was picking me up needs two sticks or a wheelie Walker to walk anywhere, and has a disabled parking sticker. When I finally reached the car park to meet her, she hasn't been able to park because at least 3 of the 6 disabled spots were occupied by cars without disabled permits. While waiting for her to find me, I complained to an airport worker, who proceeded to make all sorts of excuses for the morons who owned the cars!

6 spots is manifestly insufficient for an international terminal and I'll bet that there are plenty of rozzers, brown bombers etc around to punish those who overstay their allotted parking time by a minute or two. We have more disabled parking spaces than that at Sunnyside shopping centre in Murwillumbah, but maybe that reflects the age demographic of the Tweed.
I am rather impressed by the approach taken by authorities in psw and w'tingies somewhat far removed communities. After a day of mowing and cleaning guttering I feel that I may be in need of one of those parking spots soon.
Meanwhile, I still have pangs of guilt when I park in those parking spots that are reserved for seniors.

Around here, general enforcement of HP parking is very spotty. I am always pleased to see the officers at work. I really enjoyed watching the city tow-truck removing a vehicle from in front of a well-marked HP ramp and curb cut - meant for wheelchairs and people with canes, crutches, etc - in a very busy commercial district. The owner returned as the tow-truck was pulling away. He started making a terrible scene and the officer just stood there with that "tough shit, buddy" look on his face. It was beautiful. At that time I didn't have an HP permit myself but was a frequent driver for a friend who did.
Lots of newspaper articles have appeared about people misusing hang-tags of relatives, alive or dead, in very congested places. I guess it's a widespread problem. It's easier to ticket or tow a tagless car. A hang-tag is at first glace legal and the officers can't tell if it really belongs to dead Aunt Millie until an able-bodied driver shows up.
As for me, I try not to park in the Van Accessible spots unless there's nothing else around.

What made me laugh - Son and dil have gone away for a few days to Thailand and decided to leave the 4 & 7 yo with her mother, didn't impress me but I didn't want them so can't say anything.
Son has made friends with Australian comedian Vince Sorrenti. Vince on hearing they had left their kids at home, offered to share his two youngest with them to absolve them of guilt!.

I'm laughing at myself- long story short I've gone from finger-crocheting a rug for my living room out of tshirt yarn to creating a rug loom out of a book case end and two mop handles. Time will tell whether I'm a crazy genius or just crazy.
