There were several books in this series which I read a couple of years ago. About a detective in England who does magic. Something about the rivers of England are important, the water spirits? or water people? which have been around for hundreds of years, not just the Thames but rivers that used to run under London's streets in the past.
One book had a very tall tower or skyscraper, another book was about the detective's colleague who had her face blown off but she wasn't really a friend, think she was a baddie. Have an idea the detective's name might be Alex.
Can anyone help please?

Huh, never heard of that but it sounds interesting. In case you haven't tried, a google search of <book rivers england magic detective> gives me Rivers of London - is that it?

Ben Aaronovitch is the writer. The Rivers of London series. Peter Grant is the cop.
Rivers of London should have found the books if you searched for that.

Liiisa and HD, yes thanks, that's it. Peter not Alex. It's a good series, time to reread them again.
