With so many being stuck inside for so long with so little, one word - Netflix!
Catchup just doesn't cut the mustard, I'm afraid, but Netflix, well now we're talking.
Since I've been forced to stay inside, 1. I've watched Schitts Creek, all five series, and it IS schitt - doubt I'll watch series six when it comes out.
2. Unorthodox - very good, excellent, hope there is a second series at least. Based on a true story about a young Hasidic woman who runs away from and leaves an unhappy marriage and life to find freedom and a new life.
3. I'm starting watching Self Made then after that, Caliphate 3 looks very interesting.
Each series are very different from the others. Self Made is also based on a true story - the life of Madam C J Walker, the first female self-made millionaire in America.
Have you seen anything good lately, or have a list you plan on watching?

I enjoy the Unorthodox series - and the "making of" episode as well. I thought it was really carefully done so you understand different points of view and the intergenerational trauma of the orthodox community.
For light relief "Next in Fashion" is cool, and the creativity of the participants is awesome.

Q and Kneazle, I'll keep them both in mind. I'm watching the last episode of Self Made. I really like the actress playing the lead role - she played Minnie in The Help. You know, the one who made Miss whatsit's special pie! Octavia Spencer

I hope you are not just sitting down and watching tele all day - that is not good for your health. Give it a rest. We are just talking about TV to watch. You don't have to be the Phar's personal police force all the time.

Back to the actual question.
Anyone looked at "Self Made"?
It's about the first female self made millionaire.
I'm quite fascinated, might be my next watch.

We cancelled Netflix, of course. We weren't watching enough. three times this week, we've watched a movie on tv that we actually own on dvd. i have finally started going through all the tv apps we have, and adding anything we might like to our 'lists' but mostly we're just reading. It's like, we've been given permission to laze about with tv more than we normally do, and there is absolutely nothing we want to watch!

I don't have tv... I have access to netflix via a friend's account so I try not to use it all the time.
I'm also watching plenty of stuff on YouTube and reading a little more than usual.
On YouTube I like the Great British Sewing Bee, National Portrait Contest, and the pottery one... but I've watched all of those now.
If you like arty reality show then "Blown Away" on Netflix is awesome.

I was watching these Edwardian silent films on YouTube yesterday afternoon, lots of films of Lords dedicating statues and crowds of people milling about in the street wearing fabulous but uncomfortable-looking hats. I love those long, swingy skirts the women wore in those days. They were definitely more elegant than me right now in my jeans & t-shirt.
Zero plot, but still, an interesting thing to look at in between stitches while re-hemming a queen-size high-thread-count bedsheet.

I love Archer. I came late to it, but it's been making me laugh a lot, just when I need to. And it's one of those series that just gets better and better as the characters develop and the humour grows. And I love the artwork.

The storyline is good, the fact that it's based on a true story is even better. The costumes and props are authentic to the period and show a richness in reality. You feel like you are part of the story, you're in it. I would watch it again.

If you don't like Schitt's Creek, why did you watch 5 seasons only to skip the final one? That's like saying you hated the pie you ate and leaving the last slice.

I've watched a couple of movies on "pay per view"
Knives Out and something else that I've missplaced from my mind.

I have a Fetch box, where I subscribe to a set of channels including BBC, and can record things from that or our free to air channels to watch when it suits me. I’ve been pretty well daily watching a railway journey somewhere in the world, and an episode of Escape to the Country. Edited because the recorded episode of The Good Doctor I was planning to watch had been turned into another sensationalist news bulletin. At least I can delete!

If you don't like Schitt's Creek, why did you watch 5 seasons only to skip the final one? That's like saying you hated the pie you ate and leaving the last slice. Webs, it was a little slow starting and it dragged, but I persevered. After the first two or three episodes, it was better and I was interested to see how the lives of these egotistical, self-involved people would be, how would their new circumstances have an effect, would this be enough of a challenge to change their innate selfishness, etc. As the episodes went along, I didn't like one aspect of the show. It was as if the whole show was all about a particular character and their life and I started losing interest. Yes, I still kept watching in the hope the storyline would get back on track and have the focus on some of the other characters, but it didn't. For that reason, I will probably skip the final series.

I seldom watch any kind of series but today I sat through both parts of Elizabeth 1 (the one starring Helen Mirren). That’s the kind of afternoon it was. I can’t do this too often. Now I feel sluggish.

If you want some light relief, watch "The Windsors" - it's a parody of the British royal family. It's a bit OTT, but amusingly good for the self isolating.

I watched Phantom Thread (Daniel Day Lewis). Flatmate loved it but I felt uncomfortable. Beautifully acted and beautiful setting but I felt like I was watching a super toxic relationship being played out beautifully and just felt...uncomfortable.
I realised after watching Unorthodox (fascinating) that I want to watch a documentary about it so now my netflix searches are going to reflect that.
I've also got access to Kanopy via my library which allows a limited number of downloads each month (I think the accesses might be different depending on what library system you're part of).

I just sat through Zulu - all 3 hours of it, with a rousing chorus of "Men of Harlech" at the end.
It's been many years since I last watched it, still good though. They don't make them like that anymore. Such a very young Michael Caine.

I watched a great new German miniseries called The Deserter, based on a novel by a well-known German writer, Siegfried Lenz. It's the beautifully filmed story of a young German soldier towards the end of the war who deserts and joins the Soviet army. It's a thought-provoking story about what people will compromise for the sake of survival, including in love, and in his life after the war. If it ever makes it to the English speaking world, do check it out.
