I posted something on a fb book group about The Boy, The Mole, The Fox And The Horse, which I've had a look through in bookshops since so many people rave about it, suggesting that really it's a nicely illustrated collection of fairly trite sentiments rather than anything profound (acknowledging I may well be in a minority).
How many copies will I be receiving this Christmas?
I'll donate any to the school library if I get any btw.

I just watched something about that book on CBS Sunday Morning. That along with "A Wealth of Pigeons" by Harry Bliss and Steve Martin are on my list.

Heh, I saw that admin turned off commenting on that - did it get heated?
I've seen posts where people are ripping out favourite pages to frame as inspirational quotes.

No, not really heated - MrSnow suggested I was trolling, and he may have a point. One or two of the responses were quite funny. I still think it's not a bad idea to challenge group-think and there were a fair number of people who agreed with me, and not just people I actually know irl! I mean, if it helps people all well and good, but it's not everyone's thing and it doesn't hurt to acknowledge that.

I have no idea of this book and am ok continuing in my ignorance, but I just wanted to say: I often have that kind of reaction about "feel-good" things or things that make people happy that I find irritating and stupid, and I've come to the conclusion that unless it's something damaging (like conspiracy theory) I might as well keep my elitist mouth shut about it because why rain on their parade, it's a stupid/terrible thing that makes people happy.
But I do love reading other people's take-downs of stuff like that... heh heh

I'm not sure it's elitist exactly, and if you want a flavour of the book you'll find it VERY easily.
There were people saying 'oh dear, I just ordered three copies as gifts... now I'm wondering if I should have. Is it really twee?' not sure if they'd got it and liked it and were questioning their taste, or had just heard good things and ordered on that basis. Either way, yikes!

I said "elitist" in a self-deprecatory way, not about this or you, sorry... I have lots of Opinions that I am trying to learn to keep to myself because who am I to say what should or should not make people happy, even if it is trite like that book, or something objectively terrible like... well, never mind.
Anyway, hopefully they took your (what seems to be) valid advice in the right spirit! My friends have learned to think "well, of course that's Liiisa saying that" when they hear me making Pronouncements about things like music and coffee and beer.

We had a copy in the charity bookhop, and one of the volunteers nearly lost her mind. she adores it. (she's one of those people I've learned to keep on safe topics, because we agree on many many things, but she thinks guide dogs are enslaved while her dog left home alone for 5 hrs is just fine.)
Waitrose got that artist to illustrate one of their magazines, and I did actually tear out several of the images for teaching or crafting use. if you want greeting card art, it's pleasant. And the quotes from the books are pleasant in small doses, for me. I don't think it's meant to be read in one sitting.

I'm sure he is! I'm not telling anyone not to buy or read the thing, just that it's not really my thing. At the moment. (The funniest response I got from my FB post was: CYNIC - YOULL BE ASKING, 'WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CURRY LAST?', NEXT. ALong with someone just wanting to be clear I didn't like it).

And now I'm thinking I should buy 3 copies for £20 (offer in Tesco) and give them to the school library, since various people have been banging on about how it's good for children.

Check first? They may be getting a glut.
Or check charity shops after Christmas?

I got a copy, because it wasn't on offer when I went. It was on my list as 'curry ingredients'.
