The Booker list has been announced. Hmm, I actually had taken the new Sebastian Barry out of the library, but I didn't have time to read it before I went on vacation, so I took it back - so unfortunately I can't feel clever and say I've already read any of these. Anyway: Tan Twan Eng, The House of Doors Paul Murray, The Bee Sting Chetna Maroo, Western Lane Martin MacInnes, In Ascension Paul Lynch, Prophet Song Viktoria Lloyd-Barlow, All the Little Bird-Hearts Sian Hughes, Pearl Paul Harding, This Other Eden Elaine Feeney, How to Build a Boat Jonathan Escoffery, If I Survive You Sarah Bernstein, Study for Obedience Sebastian Barry, Old God's Time Ayobami Adebayo, A Spell of Good Things thebookerprizes.com/the-booker-library/prize-years/2023

I'm interested to see that I haven't even heard of quite a few of these authors and I don't think I've read any of them. But that's not a complaint - on the contrary, I like to have my horizons broadened! I don't follow the Booker as closely as the Booker International, but no doubt I'll be hearing about it in the coming months.

Lots of new authors, yum!
I've read two books by Tan Twan Eng, and gave them four or five stars. I've read one book by Barry and gave it two stars... the others are all new I think.

Lots of new authors, yum! Exactly— that’s one of the reasons I pay attention to these lists!

And I am midway through House of Doors.. I loved his previous 2 books so I got it as soon as it was available in paperback

Tan Twan Eng is the one I know - I loved one of his earlier books, and liked the other, so will want to read this one sometime.
Thanks for the list.

They all sound interesting! "Prophet Song" sounds appropriately dark for my current mood.

Paul Murray wrote "Skippy Dies" which was long listed in 2010, I didn't read it then.

There was a special display of the shortlist at Waterstones yesterday, but some were sold out. They only had hardbacks though... I ended up picking something else.
