No massive plans.
I'm going away for a couple of nights in the new year to the Coromandel.
I'm going to Melbourne in June with my mum to see Sarah Brightman in Sunset Boulevard.
Potentially I'm going to the Gold Coast to a conference for work.
I'll have lots of work trips to Wellington which I can hopefully link up with visit to the Doctor Who exhibition in Wellington.

2 bigger trips planned this year - in the Easter hols planning a roadtrip to Piedmont in Italy. Then in summer driving down to Northern Spain/Pyrenees/Picos de Europa and meeting up with our besties from the UK there. With a stopover on the way down in Toulouse to see @webs!
But the first travels of the new year start on Tuesday with a couple of nights over on the Dutch coast.

Slammed with work until my final liberation in mid-June, but then -
In late June I'm going to go to the national dragonfly society meeting, which is in Ohio about 5 hours' drive from here - will stop in Morgantown WV en route to see friends there (reminds me that I still need to inform them of that).
Then as you all have heard way too much about: in August, going out to see the kids in Portland and coming back on the train, stopping in Chicago to see friends there on the way back.
pero and I are also talking about going to Cape May at some point in the fall.

I’m hoping to do a road trip to Robinvale, near Mildura while one of my Solomon Islands family is doing seasonal work there. It pretty much means driving the North-East to South-West diagonal of our state. I have several friends I can catch up with en route. There are so many different routes I can take, and if the weather works, I can make a side trip to Ivanhoe, which I never managed to do when I was in Bourke.

We are just starting to talk about our trip this year (2024 - not quite there as I type this). We are discussing Spain. Although we have also discussed Greece and Turkiye again (to do the southern coast of Turkiye).
But we could also go to Croatia and Slovenia which are on our list too.
Decisions, decisions.
I would like to get to Melbourne this year as we didn't make it last year (2023).
And any European trip will need to go via Bangkok to get our fix of that wonderful city.

Everything, including travel, depends on when my knee replacement happens and how well I recover. I have vague ideas of heading to NZ/Australia next winter. Europe in the summer? LA late spring for a family wedding? All depends.

Liked that out of sympathy, sophie, having just done an uncomfortable 2-mile lurch around downtown Bethesda.

No plans yet but am leaning towards a party for the round birthday in may so if anyone fancies a trip to Copenhagen the weekend of the 17th-19th (a long weekend in some places). There will probably be a party.

17th of May is sacred here, but I might be able to go to Køben after that...
No travel plans at all. I might do a trip to somewhere in Europe with just Pinga. Don't know where though. I'm open to most things. Not extreme heat though...

Paris for the Olympics in August. Attending an Olympic Games to watch athletics is a dream of mine so I am BEYOND excited to be going, and especially so because it's in another country.

This year will see a trip to Indonesia in April. Going to Lombok, Komodo and back to Bali for the umpteenth time. As crowded and developed as Bali is, there are still glimpses of the Bali of a bygone era.
September will see a trip to Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, and hopefully a side trip to Batam in September Indonesia. Lots of mini trips within Western Australia.

The trip to NYC from Oz in September is firming up. The boys asked me if I could stay till after Thanksgiving, so that means I could be away from home for 2 months. We plan on meeting in San Fransisco, having a stopover in the Ozarks before getting to NYC. I'm still thinking about flight option to SFO - either just going direct (almost - with Air NZ - my fav airline for trans Pacific flight - there is a shortish layover in Auckland), or having a couple of days stopover in either Fiji or Hawaii on the way over. When we begin to get on each other nerves (3 ppl including a sometimes unintentionally difficult old man in a 1br apartment) I'll take off for a couple of days maybe 2 or 3 times to somewhere within 1/2 a day of NYC - that gives me a quite a few options I think! On the way back I might have a stopover in wherever I didn't stop on the way over. In the meantime I might have a few days in Brisbane with a friend who has never been there - maybe in April or May. And a couple of days in Bendigo (2 hrs from Melbs by train) to look at an interesting exhibit at the gallery there. www.bendigoregion.com.au/bendigo-art-gallery/exhibitions/paris-impressions-of-life-1880-1925
