In recognition of my 30 years at my job.com, they sent me a certificate and a gift card for $300 which can be used at the Myer group. Myer is a large department store which sells a variety of items. As usual, the gift card cannot be exchanged for cash. I don’t know what to do with it I mean it’s worth $300 but I truly have no idea. I thought new tyres but Myer don’t do tyres. And four of them probably cost more than $300, I don’t know. I do not need clothing! I’m not a philanthropist so will not be spending it on other people! Any ideas?

Does the card have an expiration date?
Take your time.
Absolutely spend it on yourself!

Congratulations on your award!
Buy the next set of presents for all your grandchildren with it, and then take the $300 you would have spent on them and buy tires?

Congratulations on the 30 years. Do any of the family shop there and would be prepared to swop the voucher for cash? If not, take your time and buy quality items that will last. They used to have a really good shoe section.

I’ve worked out what to put my voucher to good use - perfume. I have worn Joy by Jean Patou for many years, sadly it is no longer produced. A suitable exchange I found was Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf. It’s not the same as my beloved Joy, nothing will ever come up to that, but Flowerbomb is the new my perfume.
Myer have a sale on at present so it’s working out which one. Will be back after making a decision.

Do NOT BUY PERFUME.
Seriously. Use sense and save it for when you actually need something useful.

You will have some funds left over so consider the perfume your reward for 30 years of hard work, and keep the rest for another treat later in the year. It doesn't need to be spent all at once and immediately.

In my older years perfume seems so indulgent. I have so many products like lotions with conflicting fragrances. I would do like above and save it for a time. It's not burning a hole in your pocket.

The perfume happened to be on sale, $143 down from $209. Still thinking about it. Had it been Joy, I’d have been in like Flynn!

$143 is exhorbitant for something that has so little value. Given that that perfume does have a shelf life of 3 to 5 years and you have no idea how long that bottle's been sitting on a shelf, it's a stupid purchase, given how you have so many issues with spending.
Imagine needing a special occasion outfit and oh look, there's that $300, and you can go and get yourself something wonderful.
Set it by. Wait. There will be something important you'll want to have it for, more important than perfume.

Looking at the voucher holder, the Gift Card is for the Coles Group & Myer which means it can be used at several stores - Coles, Myer, Target, Kmart, Officewrks, First Choice, Vintage Celars and Liquorland.
Kmart Tyre & Auto sell tyres and looking at the cheapest ones for my car, four tyres will cost $380.00. And so, I’ll have one of my boys look at the tyres when he comes over on Wednesday. They may have time and not need replacing soon. Either way, the money will be put aside and used when necessary, for 4 new tyres.
It would still be nice to spurge and spoil myself. Ah well.

I think new tyres that you don't have to worry about finding the money for could be quite a good purchase. Do that.
Leave the perfume and ask family to buy it for mother's day from somewhere cheaper like Chemist Warehouse or something. Or look for the perfume in a miniature size later on.
But tyres aren't cheap. $300 towards good tyres - even not the cheapest ones if you can - sounds like a great idea.

I’m all for tyres too. I stopped wearing perfume years ago, because too many of my friends are allergic to it.

What a great gift from an employer. I don't think I've ever worked anywhere that would do that. Yay for not having to spend your own money on tires! What a boring thing to work for.
on a separate (but connected) note, you have often talked about trying to declutter your house. Would it help if your children co-ordinated on buying you a single, but larger-ticket item (maybe they already do). then you could get the perfume but be thinking of your kids everytime you wore it, rather than thinking of work.
