So people I know live in both Canada and NZ. Sometimes they rent out their NZ house if they go to visit a son in Australia. Their house is up for rent November as well as December this year. I don’t know if my knee will be up to travel by then. And.. it’s by Bay of Islands…

I'm with kneazle on this. Can you wait to confirm until after surgery. 99.9 people have no issues as long as they follow up with the physio. Sitting long haul will need some care. Are you okay driving on the wrong side of the road as a car will allow you to see far more. If you pm me a link can take a look...and I'm sure somehow we can catch up.

My mind is on overdrive.. I know it will go quickly (mutual friends have stayed there and it’s great according to them) and I normally jump in with both feet … but.. seeing I will only have one functioning foot for a while, and in this particular situation, my inner caution is telling me not to make any plans until I am mobile and recovered after surgery which may take 6-12 months. I do have a good friend in Kerikeri where I can stay for a bit (not a month of course!) so if my recovery goes well, that would be a good choice. And, who, I did drive in Australia but that was a few years back.

I was fine after a couple of months after each of my knee replacements. It’s the first few weeks that are harder. Would you have time for a side trip to Australia? I’m only an hour from Gold Coast International airport.

Ozzie, one of my best friends (we’ve known each other since grade 1!) lives in the area and is the reason I’d be heading in that part of the world.
