It looks like I'll have around 4 hours to myself in Granada towards the end of August. (It's a work trip outside of Granada otherwise.)
What to do? Or not do? Any good wine or food specialty shops?

4 hours to yourself…. Hey, with 2 teenagers at home and working and all the related stuff, I think going catatonic for 4 hours in a beautiful environment might be in order!

Without knowing the area at all, I would find a lovely outdoor cafe or bar, preferably with a decent outlook, and just sit and people watch. With a good book in hand if I wanted to dip into that as well.

I desperately want to go to Al Hambra but if you only have a few hours I quite like HD's idea

Hmm. I once went to a nice tapas bar in the old centre, with lots of hanging black hams from the ceiling. bread topped with avocado, raw trout, capers, and olive oil. that was over 10 years ago, it might be gone! I can't even remember exactly where it was. The Alhambra plan could be nice. the first section is the 'ooh, ahh' bit of palaces, and a bit busy. but then there's the gardens, with a lot fewer people, and you could stock up on treats before hand, then enjoy the space and the view. Jardins del Paradiso

I have been twice, and I think Granada is a lot different to other SPanish cities, even in that region. They really play up the Moorish heritage, and the souvenir shops reflect this.

If you really want to go to the Alhambra, avoid going on a Saturday, that’s the busiest day. Remember to have your passport with you as you need it for ID at the entry point. With only four hours, getting a taxi will be a lot quicker than walking.
A couple of my boys was there some years ago and both loved it.
