Oh, this is a great thread! Thanx Websie. Maybe also interesting to list places in Brooklyn as it's a nice place to stay and only a subway ride away from Manhattan?

There aren't many places to stay in Brooklyn and it's further from the sites that you want to see than you think.
Only a subway ride could be an hour long ride in some cases.

LOL! I guess Dutch people wouldn't mind if they could save €50 a night ;-)

You won't find places in Brooklyn for €50 less than Manhattan.
The few there are will be as expensive if not more than the ones I've posted.

In late Feb this year we (2 couples) rented a spacious and comfy 2br 2 bathroom 'apartment' in a Harlem brownstone for about $190US a night. Not exactly downtown, but Wall St was about 25 mins by subway (choice of 2 lines both about 2 blocks walk). The place was recommended by a friend of my bro (part of the 'we'), and we booked through Flipkey. We paid a deposit up front, and the rest when we got there.

Also add the East Village Bed and Coffee - bedandcoffee.com. 2-night minimum, but wonderful friendly place.

Jimm, I have to inform you and warn others that apartment rentals of under 30days in NYC are illegal. Due to hoteling regulations and consistent scams anyone renting from one of these sites risks losing all monies and eviction.

Webs - I was aware of the regulation, but checked the setup quite carefully. What we were doing was not illegal, what the owner was doing might have been, even though one of his immediate family lived in the brownhouse too. Since we did not pay in advance, the chance of a rip-off was small. I am wary of airbnb because one pays in advance, even though airbnb has a guarantee against rip-offs. Flipkey, which I used, is owned by TripAdvisor.
Thousands of ppl stay in sublets in NYC every day.

I stayed at the Larchmont last weekend. Pluses: location, location, location. Nice room. Reasonable breakfast (I could do without the religious TV instruction, though). Minuses: No attached loo. For me, this is a biggie as at my age, I do not like the idea of scampering from room to loo and back with clothes and toilet bag. The normal price is $100. This goes up to $165 on weekends (possibly higher on special holidays); add tax to that , and you're looking at $200 a day.

Jimm, Let me explain something to you, as a NYer, I resent strangers with no liability occupying spaces in my apartment building who are unknown to the landlord. So do me a favor, and stop advocating Illegal activity in NYC.
