how long is an opened packet of cottage cheese okay to use? I've had it in the fridge opened for about 1,5 weeks (use by date says 1 september but i suppose that's when it's unopened). so bad at this stuff (caused by a very cautious chef as a father...)
what do you usually use cottage cheese for? this is the first time I've ever used it...

Smell and taste...dhould still be good I think. I mix it with honey and put it on a sandwich with strawberrys. Or with a little jam.

i eat it straight out of the pot, i can't help it.
you can use it as a spread, as a dip for veg/fruit, mix with spices for a change. my mom used it instead of ricotta in lasagne, very yummy. it is nice and creamy with baked meat dishes, i've used it to make moussaka. (that was my vegetarian moussaka with bacon.)

Having a baby with reflux has put me off cottage cheese for life!
But to help you further, sniff test, ignore BB4 dates

I'm a cottage cheese addict. If it smelled fine and had been refrigerated then it's still good to eat. I crave cottage cheese. SInce I struggle to get enough protein in my diet and it's a good source of protein I eat at least one serving everyday.
It's my go-to breakfast that I bring to work. I mix a serving of cottage cheese with a serving of nonfat plain greek yogurt and then add muesli.

Beat 3 eggs with 6 tbsps of flour until smooth-ish Add 1 regular tub of cottage cheese Add 1 bag of spinach Add a couple of handfulls of whatever cheese you have on hand.
Throw into a baking dish. Bake for 45 minutes at 345 F.
One of my favourite simple dinners.
