no wonder Argentinians only have coffee and medialunas the next morning.

Haha, yes, I remember the Argentina guide book saying something like "Argentines don't eat much breakfast. That's because they've only just had dinner".

cool chart. and funny that they got the japanese wrong on the right hand side: they must have been under the impression that japanese has articles to put in front of nouns...

Yes, I remember when I got back from Argentina having to stagger my dinner times bit by bit back to normal, as I was so used to not even starting eating until about 11pm over there. After about 2 weeks I'd got it back to about 9pm, then finally my usual time at around 8pm.
The friend I was staying with in Bs As would get home from work around 6.15pm, and immediately make herself a big sandwich to "keep her going" until dinner at around 10.30pm. When I asked her why not just bring dinner time forward, she'd look at me blankly. Often after dinner, we'd head out into the streets (she lived right downtown in Recoleta) to meet up with other friends for an icecream afterwards at around midnight...

Ha - my friend from Argentina is married to a Japanese woman! How frustrating for them! Actually, now they have kids, they eat incredibly early. They invited us over for Thanksgiving dinner (of Argentinian specialities - yummy!!) but dinner is at 5pm!

hilarious stories, everyone. 5pm is too early.
i remember walking back from the pub (somewhere very trendy and chic in BA. even this pub was slick.) and there was a long queue waiting to get into a restaurant. it was around 22:30. surely some people have to work early, so maybe they eat and go to bed on time? i can't wrap my head around it lol...
Mei, i'm already a bit worried about my next trip. Japanese is an incredibly difficult language!

the Netherlands would fall into the light yellow bit as well, sadly.
rbw, you'll be fine - if you're not going too far off the beaten track things are also marked in English etc.

riverhorse - that's what I had to do in Bs As so as not to be beating down the doors of the restaurants by 8pm: eat a toasted sandwich at 5. Even so, I never managed to wait til 11, I'd be sneaking in at 9 with the "early diners".
