My parents are due to fly to Sydney tomorrow, they're using up the airpoints they earned on their emergency flight to Dubai so have upgraded to Business class for the flight over.
Mum can't find her passport...

fingers crossed for an easy find.
I keep ours in the safe - the safe which doesn't lock anymore but it is still a safe.

Mine's in the cutlery drawer, with my immunisation cards and the cat's immunisation cards!
It's always tucked into something otherwise. I'm sure they'll find it!

This is where haviing CTRL-F for the house would be so handy. Good luck re the emergency passport.
Mine is in a red plastic folder in the file drawer (but I always double-check 2 weeks before leaving).

Mine's currently on the coffee table! It's for times like this that if I could only learn one spell from Harry Potter it'd be the summonsing spell - so much easier to just say 'Accio Passport'

I take it they've done the usual checks - suitcases (the linings), hand luggage bags, purses, handbags, washbags, all the things your mum may have had when she came to Dubai? Is it possible it's in your house and was in your luggage when you got off the plane?

Like viv, I would be going through all bags and possible places I could have put it during that last trip. When they booked the flight - did they need to have their passports out for the number at any stage during the booking process?

She went through all her handbags. The last time she had it was when she was supervising exams at Auckland Uni and had to take it as proof of citizenship and she hasn't seen it since.
We went to the police station to report it missing first thing this morning then went to the Department of internal affairs (I drove - mum doesn't really know her way around the centre of Town) she only had to pay $290 (much better than $600 she was originally told) and it was ready by 2pm. THey're now at the airport enjoying the business class lounge.

I usually keep mine in my underwear drawer, but when I moved house I randomly put it in my laptop bag and forgot it was there. I panicked before my trip in December, until I saw the laptop bag and it seemed like the kind of place I would put my passport - and there it was!
Glad your mum got her passport sorted out!

Yeah me to whortle - they've looked everywhere but surely if it had fallen out of her handbag someone would have handed it in

Mine went missing between Brisbane airport and home returning from a trip. Never saw it again, and had to get a new one. It usually lives in a shoe box in the top drawer of the home office, where I keep other important, travel-reated stuff.
