In an unheard of occurrence, it's sunny here on a holiday weekend. And we christened our roof terrace with a few chums and our new bbq.
I've never had a garden or a bbq before. It's a gas bbq.
Top tips and recipes from those more experienced than I?

chorizo - cook it first as a little nibbly snack for everyone while everything else is being cooked.

Do you like veggie stuff? Cottage cheese (cut in bite-size chunks), potatoes / sweet potatoes with the skin left on and big button mushrooms taste really lovely when barbecued.

Haloumi slices on the BBQ, done with slices of zucchini/courgette is also really yummy.

now i want bbq.
apple juice is a recommended marinade, apparently. i think heston blumenthal has done a lot of stuff with bbqs, might be online.
i have done an easy veggie thing (although veggie skewers can be great too). choose all your veggies. if using potatos/sweet potatos, microwave for 5 minutes after cutting. chop all veggies bite size. make a bowl out of tin foil (doubled), put a little oil on the bottom, add veggies. add a bit of seasoning. add a couple of ice cubes. close bowl, leave on bbq for 15 minutes, or until veg is done.
you should end up with a nice mix of steamed veg. i like this because it can be left alone while everything else is being done. i have brought it to a few bbq's where it was devoured by the vegetarians, because mostly everything else was meat.
if you have oven proof pots, you can do any oven dish in a bbq.
my parents lived off their gas bbq for a few months because the oven died and it was cheaper to use the gas bbq for everything until they got the oven replaced.

I second halloumi, it's my absolute staple BBQ food.
Also good is mahi mahi steaks marinaded in soy chilli and ginger.
Veggie bean burgers.
Corn on the cob, husks on then topped off with salted butter.
Sweet chilli sweet potato.
I also get asked to make my rice salad, potato salad and salsa for BBQs. Happy to share some recipes if you'd like.
