Oh crap! Have just found out one of my dinner guests for tonight is allergic to cheese and tomatoes. I was going to do spag bog to try and make this a stress free experience, but clearly that is out the window now. Any suggestions? I was thinking of doing an italian themed evening, but that seems impossible without toms or cheese. I also thought about doing something traditionally English, but I'm not keen on meat, so that seems out too Suggestions for things I could make ahead of time very gratefully received.

www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2012/oct/17/fish-stew-recipeomit the tomatoes and replace the missing liquid with chicken or fish broth or other liquids already in the recipe. You could also replace the tomatoes with other veggies like bell peppers, onion or squash—perhaps just increasing veggies already used in the recipe.

Waps - I've never had fish pie but that article really broke it down for me. I'm definitely going to try it!

Fish stew MUST have brown sauce to go with it.

Oh, I've just re-read and you don't like meat, guess that rules my idea out then!

You could still do pasta, but with chilli and broccoli.
Cook the broccoli with the pasta and while that is cooking, gently heat some olive oil with some chopped chilli. I like to add anchovies here for a bit of salt too. When the pasta is done, strain, and gently crush the broccoli. Stir through the olive oil mix and have some parmesan on the side for the non-abstainers.

ooooh, that fish stew looks delish! bugger, I have just come back from the shops so too late to make that, but will keep it in mind for another night. paddox, your idea looks really good too.
I was flapping about too much so went down to the shop and got some polllack fillets - going to make a simple creme fraiche, dill and leek (from the garden!) sauce to go with. am thinking baby rosemary roasted potatoes and french beans, but would the rosemary & dill be a horrible combination?
I've got some orange polenta cake and lemon ice cream for pud, and thinking of a simple watercress, beetroot and goat's cheese (optional) starter. I'm not sure any of it goes together, but I think the dishes are mostly light enough that it's manageable.
If I hadn't already done the cake and ice cream last night I would have done a fish pie (my favourite!) but I thought the pud would be much to heavy to go with that.

I'd just do the dill.
I just had watercress, beetroot and goats cheese with cheese biscuits made with apricots, pistachios and seseme seeds and a fig for lunch. It was delicious.
I bought the watercress in the farm shop where it was grown.
have a great night.
