I am going to both in September, woohoo! I will have about a week to explore on my own. I would love to see tigers and am interested in tracking down fairtrade organic cotton fabric and trimmings and eating great food. I know some of you may have some personal knowledge of these places, ahem, so I am hoping for suggestions, please? And how is the best way to travel in between? Thank you!

I've been to Bangalore - it's a great city. Lots of great places to eat and a couple of nice ice cream parlours, I seem to recall.
Others will have to give you more up to date info.

I've been to Bangalore as well, staying with macnut - so I can only tell you that it was awesome, but that I don't have a map inside my head as I just followed her? It's a good city to start with, much less hectic, chaotic and dirty than Mumbai for example - which I found hard to cope with.

It's funny but my least favourite place in India was Bangalore. However, that was twenty years ago and I can only remember getting lost and going to a discotheque in the evening. very weird.
