Somebody brought 600g of pork shoulder steak to my BBQ but we never used them because we had too much food (as usual).
I was thinking of making a stew with red wine or cider in the slow cooker - any recipes? I've never made pork stew. Or any other ideas what to do with it?
I hate wasting food and there are always so many leftovers after BBQs! The freezer is filled to capacity (don't get me started on our tiny freezer compartment for 4 people) so I'll have to use them up till Thursday.
Ta!

Oh definitely pork + cider = heaven! Or you could also make a Spanish-style stew with chorizo, white beans and a splash of sherry.
You could also make them into kebabs threaded with chunks of onion, peppers and maybe some feta cheese.

Mmmh, yeah, feta or halloumi. We've got a Turkish / Mediterranean supermarket nearby, they do at least 10 different brands of halloumi (not that I can taste much of a difference, haha).
Thanks, Flusspferd ;-)

Or try Afelia - pork in red wine with coriander seeds. This is Jamie Oliver's version(I find Jamie irritating, but I do find his recipes good). Pork onions and applies with whatever herbs you have kicking around stewed in cider is always good. I love pork. One of my favourite things in life is on shopping day - pork steak shoved in the george grill for a couple of minutes, then stuffed in fresh baguette with mayo and salad leaves. Like a steak sandwich but better. MmmHmm.

It tastes decidedly alcoholic - you say this like it's a bad thing!?! Bit difficult to flame it off in a stew, maybe take it out of the slow cooker and put it in a big casserole dish to bubble away some of the alcohol.

:-)
As much as I enjoy my booze, I really don't like the taste of alcohol in food. Not even chocolates.
Yeah, I think that's what I'll have to do - I was hoping the slow cooker would do all the work for me ;-)

If you can taste the alcohol you possibly need to cook it at a higher temperature for a little while.
