Any good eats in either? Any new must dos? Anyone gone to the new pintxos places in San Sebastian? In San Gines still good for churros?
Haven't been to either city in 10 years. Am taking tzarevich to see Guernica

Ooh, I was in Madrid in October, had a fantastic time.
For food: Mercado de San Miguel for all sorts of delicacies; the set menus for lunch can be very good value; and I went to a really nice traditional tapas bar, but I'll have to see if I still have the card, I can't remember the name.
I saw Guernica and it was impressive, but I didn't love the rest of that museum, I have to say. I preferred the Prado (even though generally, I'm more into contemporary stuff).

Unfortunately I can't find it and I can't remember the name of the street either, which is frustrating because I would like to have known for myself too.
As far as the art is concerned, I found the Prado very well laid-out and easy to get around, whereas the Reina Sofia attempts to make you go through every room even if you want to head straight to Guernica! One thing you could do is look at reproductions of some of the versions of Las Meninas, for example by Botero or Picasso, and then go and see the original in the Prado.
