We're hoping a number of them. She's going to be in a very accessible city on the east coast that has lots of great things to do there and nearby, but nothing has been mapped out. I think letting her get used her new living situation before committing her to anything.
Will definitely keep people informed

whem SC is in the US... I might even overcome my reluctance of long distance flights, and come over to hug her (and the rest of USanians, of course).
Oh good, then I don't have to go to Vienna in December

SC plans to arrive in the US in late August and leave before Christmas. Plenty of time to make plans.

We totally have to have a pissup. I'm going to be in Cambridge, MA. Maybe the Americans can suggest a city that's central for everyone? The only thing to be feared with Rez and me in the same room is the noise level... We're both huge chatterboxes!

My only complaint is that she's coming during the semester when I'll have a new baby. Dammit. For some reason I imagined it this spring sometime.. pre-baby. Who knows, though.. maybe we'll have the world's easiest baby.
Jeeze, Soul, couldn't you have scheduled this trip around me and my schedule?? ;]

Food (and blue drinks?) for thought: Columbus Day weekend - Oct. 11-14. The Monday is a Federal holiday. SC will have had over a month to find her footing and may be ready for partying hearty. The Boston/Cambridge area has plenty to see and do, the airport is a major US gateway. Way premature, no doubt, but worth considering.

Question for PSW (and others in that area)..how easy is it to get from Boston to Washington DC by train? I been thinking of trying to get to Washington to see some of the museums (like the smithsonian)..and this may be a good opportunity since I don't end up in that part of the world often..

I'm up for Boston, easy to get to from the Left Coast.
Remember Soul, The Man is willing and able to be your driver on a road trip around our area if you make it to this side of the country.

Oh, and not to ignore the obvious, if Rez is there it would be an extra bonus.

for sophie and anyone else - current Northeast Corridor train schedule, which may be different by October but at least gives you a general idea: www.amtrak.com/ccurl/774/528/Northeast-Corridor-Schedule-2-012813.pdfThere are also buses and airlines. Boston to DC is about 450 miles/ 600km, about 8 hours by surface transportation. A multi-stop plane ticket, if you're flying anyhow, might be your best bet.

Boston piss-up Part II! Um, well we'll all be a fair bit older, but I'd love to visit the area again and I'm a whole lot closer this time.

There are very cheap buses from Boston to NYC, and from NYC to DC, but it would be very tiring to try to do Boston-DC by bus in one go. The train is much more expensive, but much more comfortable, if for some reason you're not willing spend a few days in NYC. Planes might not be much more expensive than the train.

October would work for me - after that, work gets crazy and we work 6-day weeks, so no chance to go anywhere, really.
