So about FIFA.
I've just seen a list of the candidates... is it just me or does it sound like a list of Bond villains?
Prince Ali bin al-Hussein, Musa Bility, Jerome Champagne, Gianni Infantino, Michel Platini, Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa Tokyo Sexwale

Snort.
I wonder if any haven't been hit with the corruption bat?

The BBC had an interview with Prince Ali earlier. The reporter asked him if he could guarantee we wouldn't be hearing corruption allegations about him.
He sidestepped that and said he could guarantee he was the right person for the job.

That's the interview that triggered my post.
I noticed the side-step as well... I did wonder why the hell BBC was interviewing him with the headline "He says he's the only candidate for the job" without interviewing any of the others. Not my idea of un-biased reporting.
At the end of the item they showed the other candidates and it was the names Infantino and Champagne that started me off...

I wouldn't want to google to confirm it is correct, because who knows what weird fetish sites it might turn up. All those people who can't spell whale properly.

Apparently Tokyo is a nickname, which is disappointing.

Apparently Tokyo is a nickname, which is disappointing. Indeed. Are we allowed to post on this branch? I thought it was Brodie's special place.

Sure we can - as long as it's sport related and not about shoes, handbags and pink drinks.

I read a recent report about research that had been done on transparency and good governance within international sports federations, following the scandals surrounding FIFA, etc. Idea was to figure out how bad or good the others were.
Out of about 40 or so listed, guess what spot FIFA took in this 'good governance' list?
and yeah, bizarre names....

well, yes, if the worst would be #1 and the best #40: FIFA is second-best out of the federations ranked ( article in Dutch) (and research report) (oh, wait, there were only 35 federations included)

I'm confused
Are you saying that FIFA was the Second least corrupt?

yup. (or rather, the researchers say so)
or rather: they score overall as second-best, on criteria focusing on Transparency & public communication, Democratic Processes, Checks & Balances and Solidarity.
obviously though, still corrupt, and the amounts of money circuiting through FIFA are off the scale I think, compared to many of these other organisations (badminton? maybe less transparent and much worse governance - but who cares if some money gets lost because of it, that'd be peanuts compared to FIFA).

OK so no evidence of wrongdoing, just not good governance.
Whereas announcing a World Cup in an unsuitable location was bound to raise eyebrows.
