A new Chinese restaurant in town is offering donkey, camel and buffalo on their menu alongside the usual beef, chicken, pork etc. For some reason I wouldn't hesitate to order the camel or buffalo but donkey just makes me pause. Have you ever seen donkey on a menu?

No, never seen it. I suppose it isn't much different from horse? I know Mum and Dad had water buffalo in a restaurant here once and said it was horrible - they weren't sure if that was the cooking or the actual meat.

Oh, and I wouldn't have thought camel was a dish regularly served up in China!

Yes in Sardinia. It was tougher and more boring than horse.

Yes, in China. I didn't much care for it.
I'm sure they'd eat camel in Western China. There's plenty of desert out there!

Lots of camel in both Turkey and Morocco - makes really good sausages but never been offered donkey.

Yes, in China. It was shredded, with a hoi sin style sauce and served in a tiny burger bun. We ordered it by mistake. A YCer's Chinese girlfriend translated the menu for us, and we thought she said 'duck'. We had to eat it so she could save face, but it was good.

I've pinned the tail on the first, ridden the second and eaten the third. Had water buffalo in Laos and loved it, I liked the cuisine there, it was very good.
