Following our debacle with the computer system called local IT who told me to wait 2 hrs. Said I'd already done that times 3. This is different was his reply, Why? Courier has promised my wine and painkillers will be here in 2hs.

Yesterday, frantically googling 'Hi together' to try and work out, during a lesson, if this was a mistranslation used by Europeans in English, or what the cool kids are now starting their meetings with. (it's a mistranslation. phew.) Mistranslation of "allesammen"?

I'm going to say "Hi together" at the start of meetings from now on.
What made me laugh was a meeting - VP was asking something in an off moment about Dan Levy, and my boss said he didn't know who that was. Everyone acted surprised until I piped up and said "I don't know who that is either," to which my boss said "Liiisa and I read books," which cracked me up.
I learned who he was later - the dark-haired guy from those Twitter memes.

I live in a very environmentally conscious area. All over the place are signs, some home made, some official, requesting drivers slow down for wildlife. The village where I was today has a cute painting of an anthropomorphised wallaby, saying he’s frightened. Today, I noticed beside him 3 toy koalas up a small tree.

(it's a mistranslation. phew.) Mistranslation of "allesammen"? or of "hallo zusammen" or "hallo miteinander"? truth is, i wouldn't even have noticed that's not something you say in english ...

The village where I was today has a cute painting of an anthropomorphised wallaby, saying he’s frightened. Today, I noticed beside him 3 toy koalas up a small tree. Good grief! It's started again. Do you remember that tree beside the highway just to the south of Ballina?

I probably didn’t see it, as I rarely need to drive that bit of the highway. But I once saw someone yarn bombing the trees near the beach at Ballina. I caught her in the act!

Yeah, hallo zusammen is very common here and tends to want to spread - but hello together does sound very funny to English speakers who aren't expecting it!

Yes, I'd treat it as a wierd sort of command, forcing us to chant 'Hello!' in chorus.

The ongoing Toblerone war at work.
Our team was given a big Toblerone as part of a hamper for winning a competition. Our CFO kept asking when we were opening it and eventually stole it which started the war. This has included my team opening the box, taking out the chocolate and filling it with hand sanitiser bottles, the CFO asking to see if there was a file for a Toby Lerone and yesterday he put a post it over my colleague's mouse senser and wrote 'Toby was here'.
At the same time we're organising our team secret santa and I've got someone who's currently on parental leave. The website we use to choose people has a wish list function and her wish list includes a Toblerone.

kneazle, that's delightful.
We haven't done that kind of thing at my office since the time in the 90s when we all plotted to steal red pens from the editor-in-chief - over the course of several weeks whenever one of us noticed him away from his office, we would sneak in and steal any red pen on his desk. Then on April Fools Day we waited for him to be away from his office and returned the pens to his desk (along with a large number of other red pens that we'd found) in a great big pile.
But your Toblerone story is funnier.

I'm currently listening to the Classic Australian Rock playlist on Amazon Music. Quite the trip down memory lane. PG is getting to hear some real classics. So, Paul Kelly came on (who Hal and I have seen live many times) with his rock classic Dumb Things.
The chorus goes
I lost my shirt, I pawned my rings I've done all the dumb things
PG was listening to it and asked could he possibly be hearing the right lyrics - is the guy really singing "I ate all the dumplings"?!
I still cannot contain my hysterical laughter every time this pops back into my head.

a. was asking about the restaurant where we had my office christmas party. i told her it is a very fancy restaurant.
a: so you'll be having ice cream.
me: no ... i don't even know if they have ice cream.
a: if they don't have ice cream, then it is NOT a fancy restaurant.

There are crowd scenes, but I was specifically looking for a group of men and women of different ethnicities watching on TV. This turns out to be really difficult, if you want something with no booze and everyone modestly dressed! I went with clip art in the end.
And of course, by the end of today's lesson "What did you do last weekend? Did someone else do the same thing" I realised that no way in hell are we ready for "What were you doing at 4pm yesterday?"

They played that "Wanna Be With You Everywhere" Fleetwood Mac song on the radio and I laughed because I knew it and pero didn't. He's much more of a Fleetwood Mac person than I am, so I was like "how can you not know this song?!"

I went to play waffle, clicked on an orange icon, and realised I was on audible. I’ve just downloaded 4 free audiobooks.
