I find it hard to believe that they aren't paid until the plane doors are shut. Considering they have to be there x time before the flight, that would be when their shift begins. Maybe they are paid more once the flight has commenced though.

Poppy, I wonder if that bit is for flight attendants on US carriers under US laws, and maybe it is different for people employed in different companies with different rules?

I don't think anyone could be employed in Australia under those conditions. They would have to get a base wage or salary plus penalty rates if they are employed longer than a few months.

HD, I did wonder that then thought how could any business get away with, telling you to be at work at say 8.30 doing pre work stuff but not paying you until the doors open at 9.00.

my last job wrote '8:45 to 5:30' in my contract, but the management demanded we be in the doors of 8:30 (they can piss up a rope) and gave us a work load that required staying until at least 6pm. in theory this was made up for with good holidays, but our holiday package was nowhere as good as those teaching in the state sector. money-hungry bastards.

OK I've worked for an airline and I've seen the height/weight chart the bit saying that there aren't weight guidelines is just not true
